Frankie Dettori & Olivier Peslier ride in 96th running of Turkish Derby


Gazi Derby, being held uninterruptedly for 96 years, in the name of our great leader Gazi Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, will be run on Sunday, 26 June, at 17:15 at the Veliefendi Racecourse in Istanbul. 19 colts and 3 fillies will be on the track to win the derby of Turkish Racing.

The winning owner of the 96th Gazi Derby will receive over 3.8 million Turkish Liras, including the entry fees and owner’s premium. If the owner is also the breeder of the winning thoroughbred, the amount he will gain will reach over 4.5 million Turkish Lira.

French jockey Olivier Peslier will be riding Anadolu Gururu while Italian champion jockey Frankie Dettori will ride Hardmet at the Derby.

This year it will be Dettori’s third Gazi Derby experience. He finished the Gazi Derby in 8th place with Akar in 1991, and 3rd with Chi in 2009. He won G2 International Anatolia Trophy with Balius (2009) and Hunter’s Light (2012) in Istanbul.

In 2015, Peslier joined the Gazi Derby with Seddifi in 2015 and finished the race in 11th place. He won the G1 International Malazgirt Trophy in Istanbul with Dahess in 2004.
