Fans are in for a cracking day’s racing at Hollywoodbets Greyville next Saturday, July 30. Not only has the Marshalls World of Sport Gold Cup day attracted much of the cream of the country’s top horses, punters will also have the opportunity of betting into massive Hong Kong Jockey Club World Pools.
The mouth-watering card includes nine feature events on a 10-race card, including four Grade 1 races and the Gr3 Marshalls World of Sport Gold Cup, the country’s premier race for stayers.
In the Gold Cup, Nebraas will be out to defend his title and make it back-to-back wins but will face stiff opposition from Gr1 SA Derby winner Aragosta and stable companion Black Thorn, to name but a few in the 15-horse field.
The Gr1 HKJ World Pools Champions Cup sees last season’s Champion Miler Jet Dark back to defend his title and turn the tables on Kommetdieding who beat him in the Cape Met. Also in a top line-up is Linebacker, unlucky in the running in the recent Hollywoodbets Durban July, along with Gr1 Hollywoodbets Gold Challenge winner Al Muthana.
Captain’s Ransom will be out to redeem herself in the Gr1 Mercury Sprint after her disappointing showing in the Brentford FC Garden Province Stakes but will face stiff opposition that includes Gr1 Golden Horse Sprint winner Alesian Chief. The honour of Equus Champion Sprinter could be in the offing here as Gr1 Cape Flying Championship winner Bohica and Gr1 Computaform Sprint winner Master Archie are also in the field so victory for Captain’s Ransom could see her snatch the coveted award.
The Gr1 Premier’s Champion Stakes and the Gr1 Thekwini Stakes for fillies could also decide Equus honours in the two-year-old division.
