New Racing Land Price revealed

The location and price of Racing Victoria’s massive new land purchase in Melbourne’s north-west can finally be revealed.

The 980 acre farm is at the corner of Oaklands and Craigieburn Road at Oakland’s Junction, and cost Racing Victoria $25.3 million.

Racing.com was given a tour of the sprawling site last week, currently zoned in Melbourne’s green wedge, allowing Racing Victoria to develop it for a number of industry uses including racing, training and education.

The farm, which has an active homestead and a number of livestock in its many paddocks, is nestled between two busy roads, with access eventually envisaged to be via Craigieburn Road. With huge gum trees littering the fence line, the farm has been well-maintained and has wide-ranging views of Melbourne while its proximity to the airport becomes obvious with large planes in the distance infrequently taking off.

The site is currently farmed by a family who has owned the site since the 1930s and while hilly and rocky in parts, Racing Victoria is confident a large, flat section on the farm is perfect for racing and training.

Due diligence of the site was completed in September and the final price does not include “associated fees”.
