Paddington Retired

Ballydoyle's outstanding performer, Paddington, will not be making the anticipated journey to Santa Anita for next week's Breeders' Cup due to a heightened temperature and a respiratory infection. This exceptional son of Siyouni, boasting a remarkable season with six consecutive victories, including four at the esteemed Group 1 level, will retire directly to Coolmore Stud. His impressive Group 1 winning streak commenced with a commanding triumph in the Irish 2,000 Guineas, swiftly followed by victories in the St James's Palace Stakes, the Eclipse Stakes, and the Sussex Stakes.

Aidan O'Brien, his trainer, remarked, "To accomplish what he did requires an extraordinarily special horse. In terms of his attitude and determination, he bore a resemblance to Giant's Causeway, but Paddington was a much faster horse. He possessed exceptional tactical speed and the ability to accelerate from it. He's an extraordinary specimen, commanding a significant presence. He physically developed and gained weight from one race to the next, an uncommon feat in a Thoroughbred."

John Gosden, trainer of Eclipse Stakes runner-up Emily Upjohn, praised Paddington, saying, "He's a magnificent horse, exceptionally good-looking, and remarkably composed. He's a splendid horse and a genuine stallion prospect."

Bred by Dayton Investments out of the Listed-winning mare Modern Eagle, Paddington's lineage includes three Group 1 performers in his next three dams, with his fourth dam being the undefeated Champion racemare Madelia.

Details regarding his stud fee will be announced at a later date.
