Venniker Strikes in Saudi

Rachel Venniker, represented South Africa in the International Jockey Challenge in Riyadh at King Abdulaziz Racecourse on Friday. The graduate of the SA Jockey Academy and former dual national champion apprentice, showcased South African talent triumphantly as she guided Cliffs Of Fury to victory in the last leg of the challenge.

Under the tutelage of trainer Naser Fawaz, Cliffs Of Fury delivered an exceptional performance over the 2100m distance, securing victory by a mere head margin ahead of Prefontaine. Venniker placed him in the gun position and shot clear in the inside to win well.

With the race boasting a substantial purse of over R7 million, Venniker's skillful navigation earned her well-deserved acclaim on the international stage. She rode against top jocks like American Luis Saez and England's Ryan Moore - considered as the world's best.

When asked about her experience in such company, she stated, "I rode my own race, didn't chat really, like always and kept to myself." She also stated to SAHorseracing.COM that she won it for South Africa.

Adding to the event's diversity, France's Maryline Eon emerged as the overall winner of the challenge, further highlighting the global appeal and competitive nature of the sport. It was also an excellent advocate for the changing landscape of Saudi Arabia.
