Aiden O'Brien splits with long time rider

A significant development has occurred in the world of horse racing as Aidan O’Brien and his longtime ally and accomplished jockey, Seamie Heffernan, have parted ways.

Heffernan, known for his victories aboard horses like Capri in the Irish Derby, has been an integral part of the renowned Ballydoyle team since 1996, contributing to their numerous triumphs, including 13 British and Irish Classics.

Starting his career with Jim Bolger before joining Christy Roche in County Tipperary, Heffernan has worked alongside esteemed jockeys like Ryan Moore and Johnny Murtagh throughout his journey.

Despite his remarkable successes, including a memorable win in the 2019 Derby aboard Anthony Van Dyck, the reasons behind O’Brien's decision to end their partnership remain unclear.

As Heffernan embarks on this new chapter, he remains focused on his future, set to ride for four different yards at the Curragh as the Irish Flat season commences. While speculation abounds, Heffernan's agent, Ruaidhri Tierny, has stated, "Seamie doesn’t want to comment, he is just keen to get his head down and crack on."
