Dettori Masterclass at Santa Anita, including Oaks

Frankie Dettori's remarkable run at Santa Anita Derby Day reached new heights with his fifth consecutive triumph, this time aboard Nothing Like You in the prestigious GII, $300,000 Santa Anita Oaks, covering a distance of 1 1/16 miles. Despite entering the race as a 7-1 underdog in a competitive five-horse field, Dettori's expertise shone through as he tactically guided Nothing Like You along the rail, conserving energy while closely tracking the pace. As the race unfolded, Dettori made his move at the top of the stretch, unleashing Nothing Like You's speed and skill to surge ahead and secure a commanding victory with an impressive margin of 7 ½ lengths.

The race witnessed the downfall of the previously undefeated Kinza, the odds-on favorite at 1-2, who struggled to keep up with the blistering pace set by Nothing Like You. Trained by the legendary Bob Baffert, Nothing Like You's victory not only showcased Dettori's prowess in the saddle but also highlighted Baffert's unparalleled training abilities, marking his fourth win in the Santa Anita Oaks.

In the Winner's Circle, Dettori lauded Baffert's genius, acknowledging their successful working relationship, where Baffert's training expertise complements Dettori's riding skills seamlessly. The day further saw Dettori's triumph in the $125,000 Evening Jewel Stakes with Roberta's Love, underscoring his dominance on the track.

For Nothing Like You, the victory added another illustrious chapter to her burgeoning career. With four wins in seven starts, including three stakes victories, and total earnings of $423,160, she solidified her status as a rising star in the racing world. Her impressive resume includes victories in the GII Starlet at Los Alamitos and the seven-furlong Desi Arnaz at Del Mar, further enhancing her reputation as a formidable competitor on any track.

Dettori rode a record equalling six winners on the day at 77000/1 odds. "I adore this place and to be able to say that I won six races on Derby day is beyond my wildest dreams," said the 53-year-old Italian.
