Australian Champ, Lonhro, 25, passes

Lonhro, one of Australia's most illustrious weight-for-age horses from the early 2000s, has passed away at the age of 25, leaving behind a remarkable legacy both on and off the track. Godolphin Australia announced his death on Friday, highlighting his outstanding achievements with 11 Group 1 wins and siring an impressive 82 Stakes winners.

Born at Woodlands Stud in the Hunter Valley in 1998, Lonhro, a striking black colt by Octagonal, captured hearts with his exceptional performances, including victories in prestigious races like the Caulfield Guineas, Caulfield Stakes, and the Australian Cup, where his remarkable talent left a lasting impression.

Darley Australia's Head of Stallions, Alastair Pulford, fondly remembers Lonhro as the soul of the stud, whose influence extended far beyond his own achievements. Lonhro's success as a stallion, with over 1000 individual winners and 97 Stakes winners, solidifies his place as a legendary figure in Australian racing history.

As we bid farewell to Lonhro, his legacy lives on through his descendants, ensuring that his name and bloodline remain revered for generations to come.
