David Probert Secures Hong Kong Riding Licence for 2025/26 Season Stretch

The Hong Kong Jockey Club has confirmed that seasoned British rider David Probert has been granted a Club Jockey’s licence for the period 17 July 2025 to 17 February 2026, marking his first major stint in Hong Kong racing.

A familiar name across British and European circuits, the 36-year-old Welshman brings with him a wealth of experience and a proven ability to compete at a high level in multiple jurisdictions. As of 30 June 2025, Probert has ridden 1,678 winners at a career strike rate of 11%, with victories logged in the UK, France, Germany, Italy, and the UAE.

Probert’s career began in earnest in December 2007 when he partnered Mountain Pass to victory at Wolverhampton, having been apprenticed to Andrew Balding. His talent quickly became evident, clinching the British Champion Apprentice title in 2008. More recently, he was named British All-Weather Champion Jockey and Welsh Flat Racing Jockey of the Year, both in 2022.

While he’s yet to land a coveted Group 1 victory, Probert has made his presence felt with 21 Group 2 and 3 wins, spread across Europe and the Middle East. He’s also twice gone close in elite company—finishing runner-up at massive odds in both the 2018 2000 Guineas (Tip Two Win at 50/1) and the 2022 Epsom Derby (Hoo Ya Mal at 150/1).

Known for his tactical awareness and ability to make weight at 117lb, Probert currently plies his trade in the UK but is set to add his name to the growing list of international talent eyeing success in Hong Kong this season.
