While most of the global racing audience was locked onto Ryan Moore’s triumphant return in Hong Kong — adding the 2025 International Jockeys’ Championship to a résumé already heavy with silver — Cape Town served up its own storyline, carried from races 4 through 7 by a man who simply refused to be stopped.
Andrew Fortune, nearing 60 and riding with the relaxed authority of someone who has nothing left to prove, owned that stretch at Kenilworth. Four consecutive winners, each for a different trainer, rolled in one after another, and not a single one left the gates as the public’s pick.
He kicked things off with Get World for Ricky Maingard, followed by Fast And Free for Glen Kotzen, then Pushing Limits for Andre Nel. The run was sealed when he delivered the day’s most notable market move: Demanding Dave, who tightened sharply from 8/1 into 3/1, and justified every cent of support.
What Fortune produced was a masterclass with none of his mounts favored. It was a reminder to some of his younger counterparts to fire up their own engines as the candyman shone. From race 4 to race 7, he was untouchable.
