Isivunguvungu Back In The Winner's Box In America

South African-bred sprinter Isivunguvungu returned to winning ways in the United States when capturing an Allowance Optional Claiming contest worth $55,000-$44,000.

The Narrow Creek Stud-bred gelding was recording his second American victory and his first since landing the Da Hoss Stakes at Colonial Downs in 2024.

Drawn in gate seven, Isivunguvungu settled comfortably off the pace before producing a sustained challenge in the straight. Showing his trademark determination, he gradually wore down the leader before asserting close home to score an impressive victory.

The win was another notable achievement for the Graham Motion-trained runner, who continues to represent South African racing with distinction in the familiar Hollywood Racing silks.

Speaking to SAHorseracing.COM after the victory, winning jockey Jorge Ruiz paid tribute to the team behind the talented sprinter.

“I would like to thank the Graham Motion team and everyone involved with Isivunguvungu. I am truly grateful to Hollywood Racing for the opportunities they have given me,” said Ruiz.

“I hope to continue winning many important races with them and, of course, to win Group 1 races. That is my dream, especially while carrying the colors of Hollywood Racing from South Africa.

“Congratulations to the entire team, the owners, and everyone involved in this great organization in South Africa. Thank you for your support and confidence.”

Bred by Narrow Creek Stud, Isivunguvungu once again showcased the quality of South African-bred thoroughbreds competing abroad. Narrow Creek also bred the current Champion Sprinter in South Africa, Buffalo Storm Cody. Both were awarded Equus Sprint champion titles.

Having broken through for his first victory since the 2024 Da Hoss Stakes success, the talented sprinter appears well placed to add to his achievements in what is already distinguished international record.
