There is plenty for Hadlow Stud to look forward to in the months ahead.
The farm’s exciting young stallion Purple Pitcher will be represented by his first foals this season, marking an important milestone for the operation. Purchased for R170 000 off the 2022 KZN Yearling Sale, the son of the late New Predator developed into one of South Africa’s leading middle-distance performers. His victories in both the G1 TAB SA Classic and G1 TAB SA Derby in 2024 helped him amass earnings of more than R4.153 million before retiring to stud duties at Hadlow.
The Martins remain strong supporters of the KZN Yearling Sale and will once again present a well-bred draft at this year’s auction. Their 2026 offering features progeny by Act Of War, Chimichuri Run, Declarationofpeace, Digital Age, Eden Roc, Malmoos, Master Archie and Willow Magic.
One of the most eye-catching yearlings in the draft is Rikka (Lot 31).
The daughter of G1 Computaform Sprint winner Master Archie hails from his first crop and boasts considerable broodmare appeal. She is a half-sister to this season’s G3 Ridgemont Cape Of Good Hope Nursery winner Red Spice.
Act Of War continues to enhance his reputation at stud and enjoyed another productive season in 2025-26. His headline performer this term was G1 Wilgerbosdrift SA Fillies Classic heroine Hazy Dazy. The Cape Guineas winner is represented in the draft by a filly, The Woman King (Lot 157).
The latter is a half-sister to two winners and is out of a twice-winning daughter of Kentucky Derby hero Animal Kingdom. Her pedigree traces back to high-class performers including Champagne and St Reims.
Digital Age is another stallion set to attract plenty of attention.
The Grade 1-winning son is represented by Ay Eye (Lot 60), a filly out of a useful daughter of Vercingetorix, and Bells Beach (Lot 122), a half-brother to four winners produced by four different stallions.
The draft also features several other appealing prospects. The Silver Star (Lot 115) is a daughter of Malmoos out of a four-time winning Silvano mare, while Gremolata (Lot 173), by Chimichuri Run, is a half-sister to the talented filly Limitless Sky.
