Zeus Olympios Returns to Winning Ways in Ascot's G2 Summer Mile

Zeus Olympios added another Group victory to his record with a determined success in the G2 Summer Mile at Ascot on Saturday, 11 July, reaffirming the quality he showed during his unbeaten rise last season. The lightly raced son of Night Of Thunder settled close to the modest early tempo over the round mile before responding gamely in the closing stages to score by half a length.

The victory marked the fifth win from just eight career starts for the four-year-old, who did not race as a juvenile. He won his first four appearances in 2025, a sequence highlighted by victory in the G2 Joel Stakes, before testing himself at the highest level this season.

Although he had been unable to add to that record earlier in 2026, his recent performances suggested he remained competitive in elite company. He finished third in the G1 Lockinge before producing another solid effort when fourth in the G1 Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot, making his return to the winner's enclosure in the Summer Mile a deserved reward.

Strong pedigree continues to deliver

Zeus Olympios was owned and bred by the late Sheikh Obaid Al Maktoum and is the first foal out of the Stakes-placed Siyouni mare Rhea. The mare has continued to build on that foundation, producing a yearling colt by Ghaiyyath, while she is back in foal to Night Of Thunder for the current breeding season.

Night Of Thunder's outstanding year

The Summer Mile winner added further momentum to an exceptional campaign for Night Of Thunder. Crowned Champion Sire in 2025, the stallion has now produced 10 Group winners during the current season.

His headline performers include Royal Ascot G1 winners Ombudsman, Bow Echo and Ten Bob Tony, while fillies Estrange and Portfolio Duration have also secured top-level victories. Zeus Olympios' latest success further strengthens an already remarkable season for one of Europe's most influential stallions, with the depth of his runners continuing to stand out across the Pattern programme.
