Shea wins SAA Cargo Duke Of York Cup

A year after winning The Air Mauritius Maiden Cup with Philippe Henry-trained Etro, Kevin Shea claimed another listed race in Mauritius with the SAA Cargo Duke Of York Cup`, on six-year-old, Rhythmically, also trained Henry.

It was a well-timed bid by the South African jockey as he had to move up early since Rhythmically was getting down to 1600m after running over 2200m and 2400m respectively. Since Monday last, Kevin Shea was confident to win the SAA Cargo Duke of York Cup when he was booked by trainer Philippe Henry to ride Rhythmically.

This particular race was somehow of a swan song for seven-year-old Gypsey Rover who ran his last race in Mauritius with Jeffrey Lloyd. The pair has scored some ten wins and was leering for their eleventh win together. But it didn`t turn out their way as they lost by a head.

This 26th meeting was supposed to be Kevin Shea`s day. In a certain way it was when he fulfilled his mission in landing The SAA Cargo Duke of York Cup. But at the end of the day, he didn`t manage a single win for his stable.

On the contrary, Francois Herholdt found himself twice in the winner`s enclosure. The first time with Intsu in ``The Connolly & Turner Bloodstock Forwarding Trophy``, and the second with Splendid Man in ``The Gold Circle Challenge Trophy``.

Champion jockey Jeffrey Lloyd also visited the winner`s enclosure two times with Century Lad (3rd race) and Jerico (6th race).

Heavily-backed Sun King won the opening race under Mauritian rider Vinay Naiko.

Rai Joorawon also got into the reckoning with Forest Flag in the seventh race, while the last race went to four-year-old Harbour Bridge who scored for the third time.
