READY TO RUN SALE SUCCESS STORY!
Our Ready To Run graduates have got off to a very fine start - SNOW SPECIAL, our first graduate from last year's draught of five, won his second start in fine fashion. We have again been asked to consign horses from Highlands Stud (8) and Anfield Stud (3) for this year's Ready To Run Sale at the beginning of November.
We sold last year's draught very successfully with our prices ranging from R230 000,00 for NATIONAL CHOIR to R600 000,00 for TAP TEMPO. It was a great success for our clients and we are now starting to see the success story continue on the track. Let's hope that more of our babies succeed and are able to run in the Emperor Palace Stakes on November 7, before the Ready To Run Sale.
We have eight youngsters to prepare for one of South Africa's top studs - Highlands - and all of these are by proven stallions. There are four fillies including CHERRY BERRY BIM (pictured), a very athletic filly by Spectrum from the wonderful dam line of speed horses including Harry Hotspur and Rotterdam as well as Kiss of Peace. The mare has already produced five winners from seven runners. She is a very lovely filly. COLIN'S GIFT is a very natural-looking race horse. She is one of the most racy-looking and powerful on the track. She is by National Assembly out of a Jallad mare that has already produced one winner from only one runner. STELLAR SEASON is a very robust filly and looks like she has a staying pedigree being by Count du Bois out of a very good mare that Ormond Ferraris trained called WINNING ARCHER. She won three races for Ormond Ferraris over ground. VUYUKASI is a very scopy filly by Jallad. She comes from a very strong dam line and her mother is a full sister, being by Badger Land, to Royal Land who was a top division horse. This is a very strong family, the second dam having produced twelve winners from twelve runners already and this filly is only the second foal of her dam, so there is plenty of potential still in the tank here.
We also have four colts from the Highlands draught including WOLF ON THE FOLD who is a very balanced-looking horse by Windrush. He is the first foal from a very strong family by a Mr Greeley mare, Dancing Summer. There is plenty of black type here in this dam line from America and the mare is a half-sister to Indian War Dance who won twelve races in America and Bear Dancer. Although the family is unproven here this is a very athletic-looking horse and from a very nice proven family in the USA.
We have another Windrush colt, called TYLER'S TALENT. He is a very big scopy horse and stands over a lot of ground. His mother is a Crypto Clearance mare called CODE ELEVEN and she has already produced a full brother who has had five starts for one win and four places so far. She is also from a very good family in the USA having lots of black type as well. This is a very athletic, very nice big horse. HOPES AND DESIRES is a muscular, robust colt by Spectrum out of a National Assembly mare. It looks like there is a lot of speed in this dam line because All Will Be Well is from the same dam line and he won seventeen sprints - he was a very good sprinter that most of us still remember. He looks to be a speedy type. NANDA DEVI is by Camden Park and he is out of a Lemon Drop Kid mare, Himalayan Mountains who won three races. He is a very strong colt and his pedigree is very strong further down in the dam line where it goes back to the champion race filly in America, called Chris Evert who was a USA champion in 1974. In that fourth dam line there is so much black type it is unbelievable - do have a look at your pedigree here, which is a very strong family. Of interest, we schooled two of the US mares - CODE ELEVEN and WINNING ARCHER for Mr Beck before they raced.
From Anfield Stud we have been assigned three colts to bring in our draught, two of them being imported colts from Brazil. WACKO JACKO is by the now deceased sire Roi Normand who was Brazil's champion stallion for many years having sired multiple Group 1 winners there and in the USA. The mare is Desire Bonbon has already had two winners which have got black type. He is a very athletic horse and very mature-looking and muscular. We then have a colt, ZEZINHO ARTISTA, by Siphon who is currently at stud in Pennsylvania and was the leading sire by winners there in 2008. Siphon was very fast, having won the Breeder's Cup Sprint in the USA. The mare Essa Voa is from a Neartic dam line and he is her first foal. He is a very compact, strong colt, and from conformation and pedigree, looks like he should be speedy. The third colt is CLIENT KING who is a typical-looking progeny of Caesour. He is from a mare that has produced two winners already and is from one of the founder Varsfontein mares who is a full sister to Thrilling and Voodoo Charm. This is a very strong, proven family. He is a very athletic colt and very smart under saddle.
These horses are all able to be viewed at Ambleway at any time before the sale. Please contact me if you need further information - they will be galloped at Summerhill on Friday, October 16, with the Summerhill draught for the Ready To Run Sale. Please contact me as there are some very nice individuals here and there might be something that appeals to you.
In the last newsletter during August we mentioned that Ambleway had several graduates nominated for the KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape Chapter Awards. We were delighted that several of our nominees were successful. SHARKS BAY was voted the Champion Sprinter in KwaZulu-Natal and TROPICAL EMPIRE was voted the Champion Older Colt or Gelding in KwaZulu-Natal. Congratulations to the connections of both of these horses, they really did very well!
In the Eastern Cape we were delighted that the horse we looked after before going to Dubai, LIZARDS DESIRE, was voted the Champion Three-Year Old Male in the Eastern Cape. Congratulations to all his connections and we will follow his progress in Dubai with great interest!
It is now the start of the new racing season and it is a lot quieter in most centres as the feature season in KwaZulu-Natal is now over and we are awaiting the start of the Cape Champion season which will start soon. Meanwhile there have been quite a few Ambleway graduates that have been winning and we would just like to discuss these now. In KwaZulu-Natal we have been delighted to see Michael Roberts' stables coming to hand and he has had winners with two of our graduates - ETERNAL FLAME and RUBY ROCKS. ETERNAL FLAME won again for Sidney Cassell and family over 1600m and RUBY ROCKS came out and won her maiden for Sidney and his partners, Allie and Les Flanagan - well done to you!
Dennis Drier has been away, taking a break after the end of the Champion Season in KwaZulu-Natal and his yard was ably run by Stuart Ferry. He had wins while he was away in Cape Town including NORSE SKY who was one of the graduates from Ambleway who won well over 1400m for all of his owners, Messrs de Charmoy, de Marigny, Widd, Drier and Sturlese. Congratulations to all of you!
Duncan Howells won with BOLD WONDER, a filly owned by Mr & Mrs Pennells and Colin Scott won with BOLD APPLICATION over a sprint distance for his brother. Congratulations to all of you!
In Gauteng Robbie Sage has had success with two of our graduates owned and bred by Mrs Oppenheimer, MRS BROCK and DRAWBRIDGE. Both of these won their second starts very well. DRAWBRIDGE is a very well-bred horse being by Fort Wood out of Daphne Donnelly from a very strong dam line and MRS BROCK, also by Fort Wood, is a full sister to Mr Brock who is racing successfully overseas at the moment. We will watch these two with great interest.
Brett Webber won with MSINGELI for Alistair MacDonald and Wayo Marwing won with LONG DOLLAR again, bringing him back from a long distance staying race to an 1800m race which he won, as an eight-year old - quite an incredible fete. Tobie Spies had a success with AMERICAN JET a son of Jet Master for the Liningtons - well done to all of you! In Port Elizabeth we have had success with a few horses: LAURELS won again over 1400m being now a nine-year old and MILLVALE, a daughter of King's Best won again for Larry Nestadt and Bernard Kantor - congratulations to you!
We have a list of horses who have been placed and I am sure a lot of these will win soon: IPSI DIXIT, KANAVARO, ON POINT, GINDONDOR, FLIGHT QUEEN, HARBOUR LIGHT, KEY OF GOLD, SYCO'S STAR, LA DESTINA, KIROVSKI, MAJESTIC KNIGHT, SILVER HALO, REIGN AND RULE, CLEARLY SILVER, MOI PARK, TEST STRIPE, SOME LIKE IT HOT, THE GIANT, ALIMONY, SYNCHRONISADA, COUNT IVANSKI, MONT D'OR, COOBER PEDDY, RAISE A NATION and STREET CRED who has come back after a long lay-off of over 400 days ran a cracking second in a very good field. Well done to all of you and we will watch all of these horses with interest.
It is a very busy time for all of the breeders as it is now the breeding season and a lot of Stud farms are very busy foaling down; it is such an exciting time. It is, however, very sad for our industry to have lost two of our top stallions, the potential top stallion Victory Moon who, in his first season seems to have thrown a very useful crop. Our sympathies to John Slade and all at Maine Chance and Strike Smartly at Mauritzfontein Stud passed away a couple of weeks ago. This is really a sad loss for our breeding operations as he was mating very well with the Fort Wood mares and he has already produced quite a few top horses including Bouquet Garni and Smart Banker. He was moving very quickly up the sire's list. Our sympathies must go to the Stud for their loss - Gavin Schaefer and the team and to Mrs Oppenheimer.
We are delighted that we have had our second foal this season - STRAWBERRY FLEECE, our Western Winter mare produced a lovely filly by Solskjaer. It is very exciting to have this foal as we have a familiar partner, the Irons family with us and we have also brought new people into racing - the Firman family and their children. We will all watch this foal grow up and eventually watch her race on the track; it will be very exciting for everybody, especially all the young children. We look forward to our new venture!
Enjoy your racing!
