KZN Mare, Weanling, H-I-T and Fillies For Stud Sale at Golden Acres on Monday, 19 July

BROODMARE prospects by eight of South Africa’s ten leading broodmare sires are among the 205 Lots catalogued for the Kwazulu-Natal Mare, Weanling, Horses In Training and Fillies or Stud Sale to be held for the first time at Golden Acres Farm near Mooi River on Monday, 19 July. Golden Acres, the home of Yellow Star Stud, will host buyers for the sale that offers quality bloodlines among mares and fillies ready for the paddock (some in foal), a number of promising unraced individuals as well as potential stake earners already in training. There is no better time than the present for breeders to acquire value bloodstock, especially mares destined for the stud barn. The Sale starts at 11 am with the Mare section (Lots 1-121), followed by Fillies for Stud (Lots 122-139), Weanlings (Lots 140-178), and Horses In Training (Lots 179-205).

Three daughters of Champion broodmare sire Northern Guest will pass through the ring, including Goose Time (Lot 45), who has already produced two winners from three runners. She is believed in foal to Jam Alley. Top five broodmare sires Al Mufti (2 mares) Jallad (7), and Fort Wood (5) are similarly well represented. The young Al Mufti mare Devonian (Lot 126) hails from a Northern Guest female line with black type down to the fourth dam. Another mare with a full stud career ahead of her is Miss Kiri (Lot 71), by Jallad, sure to attract plenty of interest. She’s an own sister to Grade 1 winner Talahatchie and Leading Dame, herself the dam of top three-year-old Lizarre. Miss Kiri is in believed in foal to Dynasty. Red Growler (Fort Wood x Imperious Sue, Lot 87), is a half-sister to recent Grade 1 winner Imperious Star. She’s believed in foal to Miesque’s Approval.

Other interesting prospects among the mares are Grade 3 winner Bed Of Roses (Lot 9, believed in foal to Kildonan), six-time winner Calpurnia (Lot 15, covered by Miesque’s Approval) and Johnson’s Encore (Lot 53, covered by A.P. Arrow).

Well-performed fillies and mares just recently off the racetrack include Begeera (Lot 122, Muhtafal, 4 wins), Go Me Gal (Lot 129, Spaceship, 4 wins), Mat Gold (Lot 133, Goldkeeper, 6 wins).

Alan Sutherland’s Somerset Stud will be dispersing of 14 Lots, seven of which will be sold in the weanling section. They include Lot 149, a colt by Pisarro from a half-sister to exported Men Of Rheims. Promising Brazilian-bred three-year-old colt Xis Boy (Lot 203), is undoubtedly one of the picks among the horses in training. Pointing East (Lot 182), Humberstone (Lot 185), Cat Diamond (Lt 189) and Russell’s Wharf (Lot 193), are others with excellent track earning potential.
