Campanologist strikes German gold for Godolphin

Campanologist landed his first Group One success when beating German favourite Wiener Walzer in the Grosser Preis Von Lotto Hamburg.

Godolphin's five-year-old, trained by Saeed bin Suroor, was driven into the lead over a furlong out after Wiener Walzer had made the running.

The 9-2 shot kept on strongly for Frankie Dettori to land the spoils, with Quijano third and the other British raiders Jukebox Jury and Allied Powers hard on their heels.

Bin Suroor said: "I am very pleased to see Campanologist win a Group One race. He came to Germany in very good form and I am particularly happy with the manner of his victory - he was very game.

"There are no plans for him at the moment, but we will look to find another Group One contest for him over a mile and a half."

Dettori was similarly delighted, telling www.godolphin.com: "Campanologist deserved to win a Group One race and it's a tremendous result."
