RACE 1:MR 88 Hcp 1400m Bend
CHERBOURG takes on stronger and he still has improvement to come. Will be running on. JET INTO THE WIND is never far back and in eight runs this C & D has yet to run out of the top three. Form is three 1sts, four 2nds and one 3rd. BOUNDLESS BLUE is unreliable but can find a place at best. REIGNING MONARCH has been running on in his last few starts. Has a shout. WOZA FRIDAY ran a good post maiden last time. May need to find more.
SELECTIONS: 1st - CHERBOURG * (13); 2nd - JET INTO THE WIND (3); 3rd - BOUNDLESS BLUE (5); 4th - REIGNING MONARCH (4); 5th - WOZA FRIDAY (16)
RACE 2:MR 88 Hcp (F & M) 1200m Straight
FLAMING ALICE (Joey Ramsden/Anton Marcus) finished sixth in a Grade 2 last time. This is much easier and should go close in this field. Looks to be well weighted. MONEY SURGER will be running on. Has very good form this C & D and Piere Strydom has the ride. RAIN GAL has yet to run a bad race and expect a good late effort. MISS OCTOBER is unbeaten after two starts. First time this far but won both starts impressively. OCEAN'S SWIFT has bounced back to form and is always a threat this C & D.
SELECTIONS: 1st - FLAMING ALICE * (7); 2nd - MONEY SURGER (2); 3rd - RAIN GAL (12); 4th - MISS OCTOBER (8); 5th - OCEAN'S SWIFT (3)
RACE 3:Summer Juvenile Stakes (Listed) (R125 000) 1000m Straight
CAPTAIN DINO (Dennis Drier/Alec Forbes) ran a very good post maiden last time. Looks to be a decent sort in the making and will be finding more late on. AGRA made a winning debut last time. This could be a bit tougher but respect in this field. STORMY RIDGE improved by five lengths on her debut run, last time. Stayed on that day. Richard Fourie has the ride. RUSH TO GOLD raids from PE. He made a winning debut last time. Showed good pace and held on well. TERMINATOR stayed on well to win his debut last time. Piere Strydom has the ride.
SELECTIONS: 1st - CAPTAIN DINO * (1); 2nd - AGRA (3); 3rd - STORMY RIDGE (7); 4th - RUSH TO GOLD (4); 5th - TERMINATOR (8)
RACE 4:MR 103 Hcp 1600m Bend
POLAR BOUND (Brett Crawford/Karis Teetan) has won his last three starts. He will be doing his best work late and the yard is firing at present. Should be the one to beat. KISS AGAIN (Mike Bass/Bernard Fayd'Herbe) has been contesting far stronger. He was unlucky last time when bumped at the start. NORTHERN CONQUEST is holding form well against weaker. Has a claim with the 52 kg on his back. BROWN PENNY (Mike Bass) has steady form and must be respected this C & D. SHIMMERING FLAME (Mike Bass) is holding form well and must have a shout on his overall form this C & D.
SELECTIONS: 1st - POLAR BOUND * (4); 2nd - KISS AGAIN (1); 3rd - NORTHERN CONQUEST (13); 4th - BROWN PENNY (7); 5th - SHIMMERING FLAME (9)
RACE 5:Grade 1 Investec Cape Derby (R600 000) 2000m Bend
JACKSON (Brett Crawford/Karis Teetan) has also won his last three starts in a row. He runs on strongly and this son of Dynasty should be even more effective over this distance. MUSHREQ (Mike De Kock/Anthony Delpech) looks to have something to find to win this but on a day such as today, Mike De Kock should not be ignored. VARIETY CLUB (Joey Ramsden/Anton Marcus) showed his class when winning the Cape Guineas in December. He was outrun late in the Grade 1 Queens Plate last time. May find this too far but consider on form and ability. POTALA PALACE could be more effective this distance. ALULA BOREALIS (Dean Kannemeyer) has more to find but can place.
SELECTIONS: 1st - JACKSON * (4); 2nd - MUSHREQ (3); 3rd - VARIETY CLUB (1); 4th - POTALA PALACE (2); 5th - ALULA BOREALIS (5)
RACE 6:Grade 1 Klawervlei Majorca Stakes (R500 000) 1600m Bend
WELWITSCHIA (Mike De Kock/Anthony Delpech) won very comfortably last time. Has the form to win but has not raced in this class before. Still improving though and is way above average and should be respected on a decent run when finishing third to IGUGU a year ago. TRINITY HOUSE (Joey Ramsden/Glen Hatt) is holding form very well and has only finished out of the top three once in eight starts. COVENANT (Mike Bass) won this race last year and must be considered as a likely winner again this afternoon. Won her last start. EBONY FLYER was a bit below par last time. Beat IGUGU in the Fillies Guineas at this track in December 2010. GIBRALTAR BLUE (Mike De Kock/Anton Marcus) will more than likely set the pace for WELWITSCHIA but may hold on with Anton Marcus aboard.
SELECTIONS: 1st - WELWITSCHIA * (9); 2nd - TRINITY HOUSE (11); 3rd - COVENANT (4); 4th - EBONY FLYER (2); 5th - GIBRALTAR BLUE (1)
RACE 7:Grade 1 J & B Met (R2 500 000) 2000m Bend
IGUGU (Mike De Kock/Anthony Delpech) has not had the best of preparations before the J & B Met. Whatever one may feel about her chances one has to remember three things: She is by far the best horse in the country; Mike De Kock is one of the most respected trainers, not only in this country, but in the world; and she is so well weighted that she should take a power of beating. BRAVURA (Joey Ramsden/Anton Marcus) is a very good and honest sort. He has good form this C & D. Could pick up another Grade 1 before the end of the 2011/2 season. THE APACHE never runs a bad race in any company. Must never be ignored and should go close. The Gavin Van Zyl yard is in excellent form and top jockey Raymond Danielson has the ride. GIMMETHEGREENLIGHT is highly though of. Won the Queen's Plate three weeks ago in fine style. May prefer the shorter trip but Piere Strydom has the ride. BEACH BEAUTY (Dennis Drier/Alec Forbes) may not be quite ready to win in this league but is certainly capable of finishing in the money. Is a classy daughter of Dynasty.
SELECTIONS: 1st - IGUGU ** (12); 2nd - BRAVURA (1); 3rd - THE APACHE (2); 4th - GIMMETHEGREENLIGHT (15); 5th - BEACH BEAUTY (14)
RACE 8:MR 96 Hcp 1200m Straight
DIVINE JET (Dean Kannemeyer) did not show in the Guineas last time when drawn very wide. Can make amends this afternoon. CAP ALRIGHT won his last two. Ran on to win his latest and Anton Marcus rides this time. UNCLE TOMMY was unlucky last time. Consider on excellent form this C & D. Could provide good value. MONSIEUR DUPONT (Mike Bass/Anthony Delpech) is never far back. NEVER FOREVER (Dennis Drier/Alec Forbes) is never far back but has not won in ages.
SELECTIONS: 1st - DIVINE JET * (5); 2nd - CAP ALRIGHT (3); 3rd - UNCLE TOMMY (8); 4th - MONSIEUR DUPONT (6); 5th - NEVER FOREVER (4)
RACE 9:MR 84 Hcp (F & M) 2000m Bend
CE LOIRE (Joey Ramsden/Anton Marcus) was an unlucky loser last time. Should make amends to that bump she received that day. Still ran on despite that. First time this far. FEEL MY LOVE also met with some interference last time against stronger. Chance in this field. APPROACH ME is holding form well and must have a shout. AUDREY ROSE is inconsistent but include over this shorter trip and with Piere Strydom aboard. JET LADY (Mike Bass/Grant Van Niekerk) showed good improvement last time after a moderate post maiden effort the run before that. This is much harder but consider for the places.
SELECTIONS: 1st - CE LOIRE * (3); 2nd - FEEL MY LOVE (6); 3rd - APPROACH ME (2); 4th - AUDREY ROSE (4); 5th - JET LADY (10)
RACE 10:Grade 2 Reserve J & B Stayers (F & M) 2800m Bend
BLAKE (Dean Kannemeyer) won his last two and has the form to win again. ORCHARD HOUSE (Joey Ramsden/Felix Coetzee) takes on stronger. Must have a shout on form. MYSTIC MOON could be coming back to form and has the added bonus of Piere Strydom riding. HOSPITALITY sets a good pace but could be found wanting late on. BORN TO BE WILD takes on much stronger but on form could place at best.
SELECTIONS: 1st - BLAKE * (1); 2nd - ORCHARD HOUSE (14); 3rd - MYSTIC MOON (13); 4th - HOSPITALITY (4); 5th - BORN TO BE WILD (18)
