WORLD CLASS THOROUGHBREDS ON OFFER AT 2014NYS

Bloodstock South Africa are pleased to announce that a number of the world’s very best stallions are represented on the 2014 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.
Exceed And Excel was Champion Sire in Australia in 2012-2013. The son of Danehill has established himself as a world leading sire with his offspring include such high-class performers as G1 winners Excelebration, Helmet, Margot Did, Reward For Effort Guelph, Golden Slipper heroine Overreach, and Breeders Cup winner Outstrip.
Exceed And Excel, himself a former Champion Sprinter, is also sire of Australia’s latest 2yo sensation Earthquake – current favourite for Saturday’s AUS$ 1 000 000 Blue Diamond Stakes.
Rated good enough to be the first mare of superstar Black Caviar, Exceed And Excel is the sire of 80 stakes winners to date – of which seven are G1 winners.
Exceed And Excel is also the sire of lot 304 catalogued for the 2014 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale. This choicely bred filly is a three parts sister to a five time winner, and is out of a stakes placed mare by Success Express.
The latter is a highly successful broodmare sire, whose daughters have produced, amongst others, Cox Plate winner and leading sire Savabeel. This nicely bred filly is from the family of numerous high-class stakes winners, including G1 Railway Handicap winner Bawalaksana.
Consigned by Summerhill Sales, this chestnut filly is as yet unnamed.
A truly exceptional racehorse, High Chaparral is one of the greatest sons of legendary sire Sadler’s Wells. High Chaparral won 10 of his 13 outings – six of his victories coming in G1 races. High Chaparral won many of the world’s greatest races, and numbers the Epsom Derby, Irish Derby, and two runnings of the Breeders Cup Turf as amongst his wins.
A highly successful sire, High Chaparral has produced numerous outstanding racehorses over the years. These include the ten time G1 winner So You Think, Breeders Cup winner Wrote, outstanding miler Toronado, and such high-class G1 winners as Redwood, Wigmore Hall, Descarado and current Australian sensation, It’s A Dundeel.
High Chaparral has one lot on offer at the National Sale – a filly catalogued as lot 521. Also consigned by Summerhill, this unnamed filly is out of a winning half-sister to four stakes horses – including NZ Derby winner, and Dubai Sheema Classic runner up, Helene Vitality.
Medaglia D’Oro, like High Chaparral, is a descendant of the great sire Sadler’s Wells. Currently standing for a fee of US$100 000, Medaglia D’Oro was a top racehorse, who won three G1 races during his career, and earned over $5 000 000 during a career which saw him win or place in the Donn Handicap, Travers Stakes, Belmont Stakes, Breeders Cup Classic – twice, and Dubai World Cup.
An outstanding sire, Medaglia D’Oro got off to a remarkable start at stud, when his first crop produced Horse Of The Year Rachel Alexandra. Since then, Medaglia D’Oro has been represented by nine other G1 winners – most recently Lochte, winner of the 2014 Gr1 Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap.
This magnificent horse is the sire of lot 20, a beautifully bred filly, whose first two dams are G1 winners!
Out of the flying machine Ruby Clipper (a G1 winner of ten races), this filly unnamed filly is a half-sister to G1 Gold Medallion winner, Seventh Rock. The latter has made a sensational start to his stud career, and, at the time of writing, is currently South Africa’s leading first crop sire by prize money.
The unnamed filly, consigned by Klawervlei, is also a granddaughter of former G1 Australasian Oaks heroine, Miss Clipper. She truly is a blue blood of note!
Stormy Atlantic is a stakes winning son of the great Storm Cat, who is out of the G1 Santa Anita Oaks winner, Hail Atlantis. Combining two of the great sire lines in North American history (Storm Cat and Seattle Slew), Stormy Atlantic is a former Champion Sire of 2YOS in North America.
One of the US’s most consistent stallions, Stormy Atlantic’s 84 stakes winners include the G1 winners Get Stormy, Stormello, Next Question and Up With The Birds. A truly tremendous sire, Stormy Atlantic is also the sire of champions Leonnatus Anteas and Maritimer.
He has one lot on sale – lot 114, a chestnut colt consigned by Wilgerbosdrift. This colt’s winning dam is a half-sister to former Equus Champion, and SA Oaks winner, Candy Critic. This is the great Argentinian “E” family – whose members include champions Empress Club, Eventuail, Escoleta Fitz, and young French sire, Rio De La Plata.
Danehill’s son Tiger Hill was a top-class performer in Germany, where he was both Champion 3YO Colt and Champion Older Horse. Not only did Tiger Hill win the prestigious Grosser Preis Von Baden twice, he also ran third in the 1998 Prix de L’Arc De Triomphe. Despite dying relatively young, Tiger Hill proved successful during his brief stud career, leaving behind such G1 winners as Sortilege, Konigstiger, and Elopa. Another son, the tragically ill-fated Rewilding, won both G1 Prince of Wales Stakes and G1 Dubai Sheema Classic, before suffering a fatal break down in the King George and Queen Elizabeth II Stakes of 2011.
Tiger Hill is the sire of lot 189 – a bay colt consigned by Drakenstein Stud. Named Banner Hill, this colt is a half-brother to a winner in Germany. Out of a useful Dynaformer mare, this colt is from the same family as former Champion 2YO Colt, Mujahid.
These beautifully bred yearlings are an exciting addition to the 2014 Emperors Palace National Yearling sale catalogue, and should attract plenty of attention from knowledgeable and discerning buyers.
