PREVIEW SINGAPORE SUNDAY 3 August 2014

After the extravaganza that saw three features run and won (all by Laurie Laxon by-the-by) last Sunday, the start of August sees an all Polytrack meeting but some good races nonetheless.

Case in point in race 9 where some in-form speedsters head to the start in a BM89 over 1000m.

And not many horses at Kranji have better form than SOUTHERN BOSS who is shooting for a quartet of Poly sprint wins.

A seven-time winner (six over 1000m), SOUTHERN BOSS has dominated at his last three and while his most recent win wan’t his biggest margin-wise, the race was set up for swoopers so his effort throughout to even figure in the finish was huge.

He gets a Joseph See 3kg claim so looks very well-placed to continue his golden run and it may be a case of whoever beats him wins.

The field has some class about it with GOLDEN SAND STEED and VALEVOLE with 59kg and 58kg respectively heading the weights but it might be a smart one with nothing on his back in PEACE NO WAR that is his biggest threat.

Now four, PEACE NO WAR placed behind WAR AFFAIR as a 2YO in the Juvenile Championship and certainly showed enough in his 3YO season to think he has a big future.

With just 50.5kg to carry and Nooresh Juglall to steer, he will have admirers in what looks a very exciting race.

Elsewhere on the 11 race card, GEESON MASTER looks very well-placed back in Maiden company (race 10) to knock in his first career win and those looking for value might want to keep GILT LAD safe in the lucky last as he brings some nice trial form with blinkers to the races for the first time.

Best Bets; (SOUTHERN BOSS race 9, win), (GEESON MASTER race 10, win) and (GILT LAD race 11, value).

Bankers for Jackpots: Race 8 (1, 2, 3, 5 and 7), race 9 (1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6), race 10 (1, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8), race 11 (1, 3, 4, 6 and 12).

RACE 8: CLASS 4 - 1000M (POLYTRACK) TIME: 16:25 PRIZE MONEY: S$60000

Larry says, "DR OCTOPUS looks the obvious choice in this Class 4 sprint and while there won't be any value on offer, he is the one to beat. He will also have to work early from the wide gate but has pace and is honest, so it might be a case of whoever beats him wins. One that might be value is PRIMERA ESPADA. Connections of the now 8YO might have been thinking they had a "good one" on their hands when he knocked in his fifth career win back in September 2011 but no wins since certainly put any lofty ambitions to bed. Back in Class 4 first-up after a break is in his favour as is a nice recent trial and happy to think he goes well fresh. Of the rest with winning hopes, ROBERT E is also resuming and is always a big show in races like this with FINAL COUNTDOWN - who had excuses last start - looking due with Alan Munro up. WAR SPIRIT turned some poor form around at his last start so has to be respected and ALL SERENE is honest enough to include in exotics."

RACE 9: OPEN BENCHMARK 89 - 1000M (POLYTRACK) TIME: 17:00 PRIZE MONEY: S$100000

Larry says, "Not many horses racing in better form than SOUTHERN BOSS at the moment and very hard not to have him on top. The 5YO did the work and ran on extremely well considering the effort to win with some 58.5kg and with a Joseph See 3kg claim, he looks well-placed with just 54.5kg. The field throws up plenty of interest though and PEACE NO WAR also looks weighted to win with 50.5kg. The War Pass gelding has always shown potential and has certainly done enough at 10 career starts to win at this level with gate 1 for Juglall a bonus. At the top-of the weights, both GOLDEN SAND STEED (59kg) and VALEVOLE (58kg) have to be respected with the latter hopefully providing value first-up after a spell. Throw in PERFECT CHARGER and ART OF SPEED on what looked a nice recent trial but SOUTHERN BOSS might just be too good again."

RACE 10: MAIDEN - 1600M (POLYTRACK) TIME: 17:30 PRIZE MONEY: S$35000

Larry says, "A tough maiden and while you could make a case for most of the field, a couple that raced well in higher grades at their last starts in GEESON MASTER and ALASAMO look a good place to start. GEESON MASTER in particular ran a beauty in Class 4 level behind NEW YORK CITY at his last start and that form has to hold up here. He did carry only 49kg but the run more than enough to think he carries 57kg and wins. ALASAMO has been in the mix being beaten only three lengths at his last two starts in KSD company and with Corey Brown to ride, he gets his chance stepping up to what should be a perfect trip. But one that seemingly has no form coming into this but can win is FLUTZ. The Stephen Gray-trained 5YO has been over sprint distances at his last two runs and will grow the proverbial leg stepping up to the mile with a handy Rueven 2kg claim. Most others go close so go super wide in exotics."

Has had plenty of excuses of late and could show up at odds with winkers added.

RACE 11: CLASS 4 - 1200M (POLYTRACK) TIME: 18:00 PRIZE MONEY: S$60000

Larry says, "While there are a few horses who could improve on some poor recent form and show up at odds, DREAMCATCHER is due and easy to have on top. The five-time winner backed up his most recent win in KSD company with two good placed runs in Class 4 and looked unlucky last start not to salute. He has drawn a wide gate for this but with any luck in running, will be hard to hold out. Two that might improve dramatically on recent form are the top-weight BAZINGA and the bottom weight, GILT LAD. Both are unreliable but GILT LAD in particular gets head-gear for the first time at the races and if he brings some good trial form with blinker/pacifiers to the races, he could surprise. BAZINGA doesn't get a gear change but the fact he finds himself in Class 4 with 53kg thanks to a Amin 4kg claim, he could show his best. ARROW TO POST and GRAND SEVEN SEAS the other two that can win."

Resuming and usually thereabouts so keep safe in exotics fresh.
3 07132 Dreamcatcher     App R Shafiq-1 M Walker 12 60 56.5 3.00
Excuses not to win last start and could be hard to beat in this.

Coming off two solid runs in Singapore and switch to Poly could be a good move.

Showed enough late last start to think he is on the improve.
6 7*215 Arrow To Post     T O'shea L Dragon 10 56 54.5 6.00
Last run better than the result and goes very close here with any luck from the awkward gate.
