Dynamic (SAF) completed a remarkable comeback from a tendon injury when he landed the Gr 2 Vasco Premier Trophy over 1800m at Kenilworth on Saturday. Helderberg Blue (SAF) put in a stout late challenge but had to settle for second, ahead of Power King (SAF) and Johnny Rockets (SAF).
Brilliantly ridden by Sean Cormack, Dynamic was soon at the head of affairs with Paterfamilias in second and Arion and Helderberg Blue next best. Power King sat in fifth ahead of True Master and Johnny Rockets while Gold Onyx and Captain America brought up the rear.
Dynamic stuck to his guns in the straight, seeing off challenges from Power King and Arion but it was Helderberg Blue who emerged as the major threat in the closing stages. The latter looked as if he might be finishing the stronger but Dynamic continued to find under pressure and held on for a narrow victory.
The winner has already shown his credentials as a 3-year-old when giving Capetown Noir a fright in the Cape Derby two seasons ago but had then been sidelined by injury and spent a year and a half off the track. Justin Snaith's (pictured) charge is now unbeaten in three starts since his return and he has thrown his name into the hat for the J & B Met.
Helderberg Blue has come into his own this season and only just failed to land a first graded win while Power King ran respectably well, as did Johnny Rockets who belied his odds of 66/1 with a creditable effort in this class.
