Cape Thoroughbred for three year olds (Non-Black Type): Beloved Country to continue feature race success for Trippi, Marcus and Ingrid Jooste

Cape Thoroughbred for three year olds  (Non-Black Type): Beloved Country to continue feature race success for Trippi, Marcus and Ingrid Jooste

Sire, TRIPPI, has five runners in this race. The best chance of success could lie with BELOVED COUNTRY

Trainer Charles Laird, making a rare appearance in Cape Town, must have a good shout to land the R1 million Cape Thoroughbred over 1200m with BELOVED COUNTRY.  The race has attracted a good field for this race. This will be her first venture outside of KwaZulu Natal and even though she hasn't won anything in her last three runs, she has won only with Anton Marcus aboard and the two are unbeaten after three starts together. The jockey has recovered from injury and makes a welcome return to the saddle. Marcus and Ingrid Jooste have had a remarkable Cape Summer Season in which they have won a large percentage of the feature races on offer.  Expect another good run, especially with  Anton aboard.

Her biggest danger could be KINGVOLDT who finished only 4½ lengths behind FUTURA in the Grade 1 Queen's Plate two weeks ago. That was against a field of super stars and he should go close in this race. With all due respect, this field is not anywhere as strong as the Queen's Plate. One also has to look at his form over this course and distance where he has won three from four with one second. Expect him to be running on this course and distance.

ZAMBEZI RIVER has won three from four starts and his only loss when he was soundly beaten by just over six lengths by ACT OF WAR in the Cape Guineas last time. Also sired by TRIPPI. ZAMBEZI RIVER has won at this track and should  have a good shout if not losing ground at the start.

Another TRIPPI runner is EQUITY KICKER, who has won three from six starts. Expect to see this gelding run on late and with the Mike Bass/Grant Van Niekerk combination of trainer/jockey respectively, one cannot ignore his chances even if this is against stronger.

SUNSET TRIPP did not show in the Fillies Guineas, won by MAJMU last time, but is one that could improve.

1st - BELOVED COUNTRY (12); 2nd - KINGVOLDT (1); 3rd - ZAMBEZI RIVER (3); 4th - EQUITY KICKER (6); 5th - SUNSET TRIPP (15)
