ZE KAISER wins Non-Black Type Cape Mile
The Mike Bass trained Ze Kaiser came from last at the top of the straight to mow down the field in the Non_Black Type Cape Mile at Kenilworth on Saturday.
The start to the 1600m event was a good one with all the runners breaking on terms. SOUTH KENSINGTON was the first to show from OMATICAYA, KING OF PAIN and POWER KING. The order remained the same and the gallop was a sedate one. As the approached the bend into the straight DISCO AL began to move up. At the same time SOUTH KENSINGTON stretched out and began to command the entry into the straight. NIGHT TRIP also moved into contention but couldn't go on with it.
POWER KING looked to be the main danger at the 400m mark with SOUTH KENSINGTON on the retreat. All the while ZE KAISER was finding a very good finish and at the top of the straight was the unlikely winner. DISCO AL was also producing a very good finish ran on for a creditable third. Without trying to make an excuses for the talented KING OF PAIN, he may just have needed the run and should be given another chance next time.
