CAMELLIA STAKES (Grade 2) - BICHETTE scores an impressive victory
In a cleverly ridden race by jockey S'Manga Khumalo, BICHETTE, trained by Sean Tarry, won the penultimate feature race of nine at Turffontein. In the eight raced prior to this one, the winners had come from horses racing on the outside section of the track.
S'Manga Khumalo decided that the track had dried up enough for her to race on the inside. He did have company in the form of WINTER STAR, who couldn't keep up with the eventual winner. The balance of the field raced on the outside.
Lazer Star and TZIGANE lost a length or two at the start. PEJ and LUMYA were the ones to show pace early on down the outside but at the 400m mark it was apparent that there was only going to be one winner.
The winner won by an extending six lengths. PEJ stayed on for second while TZIGANE, after the slow start ran on for third with DRIFTING DUSK running a vastly improved race in fourth.
This win was her third from seven starts and she has earned just under R400 000.
