The breeding rights to triple crown hopeful American Pharoah was sold one day after saying offers would likely not be entertained until after the Belmont on June 6 despite offers of upwards of $20 million.
Due to a confidentiality agreement, neither the name of the farm, nor the purchase price were immediately disclosed, but owner Ahmed Zayat announced this morning that Coolmore Stud was the buyer.
Zayat called the offer that was put on the table too good to pass up. Zayat said he will retain 100 percent of the horse's racing rights. American Pharoah will not retire immediately after the Belmont, even if he becomes the first horse since 1978 to win the Triple Crown.
If American Pharoah does win the Triple Crown by winning the Belmont Stakes, the undisclosed farm will pay more for his breeding rights, as specified in the agreement.
Zayat also tweeted that American Pharoah will be, “staying and standing in America.”
