LANGERMAN (Grade 3) - The maiden, READY TO ATTACK causes upset
It is almost unheard of that a Justin Snaith trained horse ridden by Richard Fourie should beat more fancied horses in a feature race. The two year old Australian bred, READY TO ATTACK, did just that at Kenilworth this afternoon. He won so well that he put almost two lengths between himself and the second horse, LORD MARSHAL.
ERNIE was the first to show and he was followed by LORD MARSHAL, RED REX and KEMAL KAVUR. When they entered the home straight READY ATTACK, in the familiar Jooste colours in co-ownership with Hassen Adams, swept into the lead to win going away. Jockey, Richard Fourie, was able to keep him together throughout the race and then brought him forward to win against mostly winners. He could be a horse to follow in the Cape Summer Season later on in the year. He had been supported in both of his maiden runs suggesting that he was highly regarded but was sent off today at 12/1.
Ernie was sent off as favourite despite the wide draw with the well fancied THE STONE THROWER also given a shout.
What made the result and run of READY TO ATTACK even more spectacular was that he never looked like winning, that is until they aimed at the winning post in the home straight. This win, the first of his career in only his third start, has catapulted his earnings from just over R3 000 to R just over R128 000. This win will definitely not be his last.
