THE tabGOLD 2200 (Grade 3) - ULTIMATE DOLLAR goes gun to tape to win first feature on Vodacom Durban July Day
The first feature race on the day went the way of Cape Sown trainer, Justin Snaith with ULTIMATE DOLLAR. Also referred to as the Consolation July, it looked to be the other Justin Snaith runner, DYNAMIC, who failed to make the last eighteen in the "big" one, would be the one to beat.
The start was a very good one. ULTIMATE DOLLAR, drawn one from the outside, was the first to show. Next in line was the stable companion DYNAMIC. The other fancied runner, ST TROPEZ was just behind that travelling on the rail. MOUNTAIN MASTER also raced prominently until the final 400m. BIG CAT also showed some early speed.
ULTIMATE DOLLAR came wide into the straight. MOUNTAIN MASTER showed momentarily. DYNAMIC was left to challenge, that is until Durban born Chad Schofield and now racing in Australia, found a good finish on St Tropez who snatched the second prize.
The three year old son of JET MASTER, ULTIMATE DOLLAR, recorded his fourth win from eleven starts and has now earned just under R500 000.
