SAJA PRIZE GIVING AND SPEECH DAY

The South African Jockey Academy held its annual Prize Giving and Speech Day at the Clubhouse at Summerveld today and was attend by various racing dignitaries including The honoury President of the South African Jockey Academy, Mr Ben Jonsson, the Chairman of the Academy board, Mr Avison Carlisle, Academy board members Dave Furness and Tony Rivalland as well as special guest speaker, Chief Executive of the British Racing School.

It was a special and enjoyable day that culminated in Mr Grant Harris announcing the SAJA and BRS would be entering in a partnership that would see two South African apprentices being given the privilege of travelling to Newmarket each year to complete their International Apprentice course and race in the UK.

Riding Awards Winners
· The Greg Holme Trophy was won by Dylan Lerena
· The Elizabeth Jonsson Trophy was won by Liam Tarentaal
· The Justin Bircher Most Improved Athlete Trophy was won by Dylan Lerena
· Justin Bircher Athlete of the Year Trophy was won by Calvin Ngcobo.
· The Rakesh Jeewanlall Award was won by Tristan Godden.
· The Robbie Thompson Award was won by Eric Ngwane
· The South African Jockey Academy Ambassador Trophy was won by Mathew Thackeray
· The Lindsay Family Floating Trophy was won by Denis Schwarz.
· The Happy Chimes Trophy was won by Eric Ngwane.
· The Bennie Norton Trophy was won by Akshay Balloo.
· The Oric Pretorious Trophy for Esprit d’corps was won by Louis Burke.
· The Ronald Khumalo Prize was won by Eric Ngwane.
· Headmaster’s Award was won by Simphiwe Ngcobo
· The McDonald Trophy was won by Tristan Godden
Academic Award Winners
· The Racing and Equestrian Floating Trophy was won by Denis Schwarz
· The Racing and Equestrian Floating Trophy was won by Calvin Habib
· The Amanda Jonsson Trophy was won by Louis Burke
· Nicky Armstrong Trophy and the Dux for 2015 is Tayla Mackinnon.
