PREVIEW: TURFFONTEIN - 28 NOVEMBER 2015

PREVIEW: TURFFONTEIN -  28 NOVEMBER 2015

RACE 1:

With the scuttling of GRAF SPEE, the race has probably made it much easier for CHEROKEE GREY to win. He disappointed on debut last time but should be given another chance. NAWAB is a TIGER RIDGE first timer. NAVARHO is a DYNASTY first timer. NIRVANA raids from KZN. Has had two good runs. REBUKED is an ALBERT HALL first timer.

1st - CHEROKEE GREY (2); 2nd - NAWAB (8); 3rd - NAVARHO (7); 4th - NIRVANA (9); 5th - REBUKED (10)

RACE 2:

ALEXA made a very good debut last time. Has a very good chance on that run. SAO PAULO should improve on a  moderate debut last time. JUDITH is a JUDPOT first timer. MONARCH AIR did not show against winner last time. Will be happier this company. MATILDA'S DAUGHTER weakened over further last time. Better this distance.

1st - ALEXA (5); 2nd - SAO PAULO (13); 3rd - JUDITH (10); 4th - MONARCH AIR (3); 5th - MATILDA'S DAUGHTER (2)

RACE 3: HIFI CORP MAGNOLIA HANDICAP (Grade 3)

LUMYA won with a ton in hand over 1000m last time. Should be able to repeat. PERFUMED LADY is unbeaten after three. Should go close again. Will be suited to the extra. KWINTA is never far behind. Should be in the mix. SILVER CLASS needs a better finish. MARIA THERESA needs to show improvement.

1st - LUMYA (7); 2nd - PERFUMED LADY (11); 3rd - KWINTA (4); 4th - SILVER CLASS (3); 5th - MARIA THERESA (13)

RACE 4: AMTOTE MERCHANTS (Grade 2) - AL DON CUMARCO to cause the upset?

The first feature on the day's card looks open and it could bring  about the first upset on the card. AL DON CUMARCO could cause that upset. he comes into this race with some very good Port Elizabeth form. Expect a good run.

DOLLAR DAZZLER may be a little off form. Did not show when making his comeback. Is better than that run. Would have needed that run. He should be a big runner this afternoon.

DOING IT FOR DAN won the Golden Loom very easily when running on strongly. last time. Has every chance of repeating that run.

AURUM POT is never too far back but tends to hang in the latter stages.

BRUTAL FORCE goes for the hat trick. Won last start this C & D last time.

1st - AL DON CUMARCO (2); 2nd - DOLLAR DAZZLER (6); 3rd - DOING FOR DAN (5); 4th - AURUM POT (14); 5th - BRUTAL FORCE (3)

RACE 5: JOSHUA DOORE / RUSSELLS FILLIES MILE (Grade 3)

JOAN RANGER must have a very good chance on current form. Will be running on. Only a one time winner but looks to have scope. MELLIFLORA won both his starts over the distance. Expect another very good run. ALESSIA had excuses last time. Watch! NEGROAMARO was not disgraced in his post maiden last time. Only a three time runner. JUXTAPOSE is unbeaten after two. One to consider to run into the money.

1st - JOAN RANGER (3); 2nd - MELLIFLORA (4); 3rd - ALESSIA (8); 4th - NEGROAMARO (9); 5th - JUXTAPOSE (10)

RACE 6: INVESTEC DINGAANS (Grade 2) -  NOAH FROM GOA looking to make it four wins from five starts

Trainer Mike De Kock could have a very good chance of winning the Dingaans with NOAH FROM GOA. He steps up in distance. On the evidence of his latest two starts over shorter, he should see out the extra with some ease. This will be his fifth race in two and a half months. Jockey and draw will be to his advantage.

The Mike Azzie trained ABASHIRI hasn't run since running a close up third to the classy stable companion, RABADA on Gold Cup Day. Both runs were at Greyville, the last run was against stronger and he makes his debut in his home town this afternoon. He has been lightly raced and has run only twice, having made his debut at the end of May. This will also be his first run since gelding. Finished well in both starts.

Justin Snaith is a promising three year old. He is still improving and this will be his biggest test to date. He has a tendency to be slow to go but does finish well. The yard is doing well in Johannesburg and expect a good run from this Australian bred colt.

BULL VALLEY was his first two races impressively and was not disgraced last time against a competitive field. Could earn a place cheque. He is unbeaten when Craig Zackey has ridden him with two from two. The Dominic Zaki yard has been in form.

RIKITIKITANA finished behind RABADA on Gold Cup Day. Should have more to find. First run in Johannesburg Respect the Sean Tarry and S'Manga Khumalo combination.

1st - NOAH FROM GOA (5); 2nd - ABASHIRI (1); 3rd - LINEKER (2); 4th - BULL VALLEY (3); 5th - RIKITIKITANA (8)

RACE 7: GAUTENG SANSUI SUMMER CUP (Grade 1) - MAC DE LAGO has claims on very good comeback run

The first "big one" of the Summer Season sees the Australian bred MAC DE LAGO coming into the race with a strong claim after his comeback run in the Grade 2 November Handicap. The one big concern would be that he may need another run to reach peak fitness. Nevertheless, he has raced over 2000m at Greyville in the Grade 1 Daily News in May and stayed on well that day which is promising. He is a lightly raced four year old. He has met FRENCH NAVY on two previous occasions and last time close the gap enormously. The Weiho Marwing trained MAC DE LAGO looks to be ready to win a Grade 1 sooner rather than later. The wide draw of 17 should not pose that much pf a hindrance over the lengthy 2000m. There should be a good pace in this race and that will suit him very well.

The obvious threat will be in the form of FRENCH NAVY. They meet on level terms from the November Handicap and that day FRENCH NAVY finished one length behind MAC DE LAGO. At level terms there should not be a change in the order. He has disappointed ion the odd occasion before but you can expect his trainer Sean Tarry to have prepared him to a T for this race. He has a tendency to lose ground at the start, but has the ability to finish well. Expect another strong finish. Jockey Raymond Danielson has a very good rapport with this horse and has ridden in all but one of his twelve starts which includes all four of his wins. An exciting race in the offing.

One cannot ignore the chances of POWER KING, winner of this year's Vodacom Durban July. He meets FRENCH NAVY at level weights for a three length victory in that race, but this will be his first race visit to the track. He did have a very good preparation run over a distance far short of his best. He is reunited with the jockey who was aboard in the July, Stuart Randolph. Horse and jockey will not go down without a fight.

DEO JUVENTE takes on stronger that she class of field he beat last time. He has raced against stronger before. Not out of it this afternoon.

DISCO AL was not disgraced in the marathon "Gold Cup" two runs back. Another Cape Town runner, POWER KING, one of four others, has a shout. Is a three time winner over the distance. One with a claim could also be MASTER SABINA.

1st - MAC DE LAGO (8); 2nd - FRENCH NAVY (1); 3rd - POWER KING (2); 4th - DEO JUVENTE (10); 5th - DISCO AL (13)

RACE 8: BRADLOWS / MORKELS IPI TOMBE CHALLENGE (Grade 2) - BICHETTE in good form to take the IPI TOMBE

The Sean Tarry trained BICHETTE has won four from her nine starts and has been lightly raced since making her debut in November last year. On the way she has faced some pretty strong fields and ran short distances behind champion horses. This afternoon she has every chance to elevate herself to her second Grade 2 career win. Last time at the track she won with authority against a slightly weaker field. Seven of her nine runs have been at this track where all four of her wins have been recorded. She won very well last time over 1400m. She has run once before over 1600m and on that day she found it just out of her range. Trainer Sean Tarry will no doubt have her finely tuned for this afternoon's race and it would not be surprising to see her make the distance with some ease. S'Manga Khumalo is back aboard.

SMART CALL won the Grade 1 Woolavington at Greyville in May when she beat a useful field. She may have needed her latest run and should have come along since her latest run after the rest. This smart four year old filly still has a number of important wins left in her and she has already amassed over R1 million. Her best runs have been with Weichong Marwing in the saddle. She is not ante post favourite for nothing.

Respect  the stable companion of BICHETTE, TROPHY WIFE. Even though she hasn't won in over a year, her form has been very good as well as consistent and against much stronger opposition. Can get into the mix late on.

PENNINGTON SANDS has been moving up the ranks and has been running well in all division. She will be doing her best work late but may prefer slightly further.

LOVE TO SAIL may have a bit more to find but one has to respect the Mike De Kock/Anthony Delpech on feature race days, especially.

1st - BICHETTE (2); 2nd - SMART CALL (1); 3rd - TROPHY WIFE (3); 4th - PENNINGTON SANDS (6); 5th - LOVE TO SAIL (4)

RACE 9: GAUTENG RACING ASSOCIATION HANDICAP (Grade 3)

ARCH RIVAL has good form and he did bounce right back to best form with a very good late finish last time over shorter. He may need to prove that he will see out the 3200m but does look to be one of the main contenders for top honours. STORM WARNING has seen out this distance before. He did run on too late over shorter last time. Looks ready to win again. J'S OUTSIDER is a C & D winner and has won against stronger before. One to consider as a threat. COOL CHARDONNAY was returning from a lengthy break last time and would have needed the run. Has won at this level before. GOLDEN HIGH could be the lurker and could be one to follow.

1st - ARCH RIVAL (5); 2nd - STORM WARNING (1); 3rd - J'S OUTSIDER (7); 4th - COOL CHARDONNAY (2); 5th - GOLDEN HIGH (10)

RACE 10:

KINGMAMBO'S LEGACY has the form and drops in class. Will be better this middle distance. SILVER SCOOTER has the form to go on and win. Will be finishing well and has to have a huge chance as well. JOHNNY ROCKETS makes the trip from Cape Town. He hasn't run for over three months but should not be written off. He has won three times over the distance and is most certainly worth a few each way bets, BRAD'S SURGE has poor recent form but could provide the upset. FINCHATTON has good form against weaker. Back end of quartets, perhaps.

1st - KINGMAMBO’S LEGACY (7); 2nd - SILVER SCOOTER (4); 3rd - JOHNNY ROCKETS (1); 4th - BRAD'S SURGE (6); 5th - FINCHATTON (8)

RACE 11:

THRUST has won four from six, including one this C & D. Has the form to win again. LONELY ARETHEBRAVE can make a statement. Needs to run on more consistently. ISCA could be improving. MASTER'S SPIRIT has been threatening in recent starts. ALGUEDA ran a decent post maiden last time.

1st - THRUST (1); 2nd - LONELY ARETHEBRAVE (8); 3rd - ISCA (5); 4th - MASTER'S SPIRIT (7); 5th - ALGUEDA (9)

RACE 12:

SAVE THE RHINO won last time when wearing the blinkers for the first time. Can follow up. Both wins this C & D. LAVA FLOW should challenge on recent runs. SEIZE THE THRONE hasn't won in over a year but appears to enjoy Turffontein. HAWAIIAN SUN has improved in his last two. Should be running on. TOM FOOL won well against weaker last time. More to do this evening.

1st - SAVE THE RHINO (1); 2nd - LAVA FLOW (7); 3rd - SEIZE THE THRONE (3); 4th - HAWAIIAN SUN (10); 5th - TOM FOOL (11)
