Quotes for Group 1 US$10m Dubai World Cup

Victor Espinoza (jockey, California Chrome, 1st) - “I'm just trying to keep my balance and not move my body. I wasn't that concerned about it (the slipped saddle), I just kept looking forward and thinking 'where's the wire'. It was not coming fast enough. I felt like if I could hit the turn three or four wide I'll be in good shape. Today it proves how he can run when he's 100 per cent. The prep he felt strong. He won easy. I didn't want to override him because I knew he was going to have a tough race today. My goal after winning the Triple Crown was to win the Dubai World Cup. Last year he finished second and it was not very fun.”

Christophe Soumillon (jockey, Mubtaahij, 2nd) – “He’s back to his best. It was an excellent run. I had a nice position but California Chrome is just a superb horse.”

Flavien Prat (jockey, Hoppertunity, 3rd) - “Because of a wider gate, he wss a bit deep on the track but he ran great in the stretch, finished off very strongly. It’s an even better run because that sort of track is different to what he’s used to at home. I’m very happy.”

William Buick (jockey, Frosted 5th) - “The race went well. We were tracking California Chrome the whole way, but Frosted came off the bridle a little bit earlier today than what he usually does. He wasn’t as good today as he was last time and I’m not sure why.”

Frankie Dettori (jockey, Mshawish, 6th) – “It was just too long.”

Pat Dobbs (jockey. Candy Boy, 7th) – “I could have done with them going a little quicker but all in all he’s run a super race on an interrupted preparation. He’ll be a smashing horse for next year.”

Ryan Moore (jockey, Keen Ice, 8th) – “I thought he hit the line well. He’s coming back on track."

Hideaki Miyuki (jockey, Hokko Tarumae, 9th) - “He broke well but he tried to bite another horse coming from the outside. He didn’t get the speed, he was boxed in and he couldn’t run his race. He lost the spirit due to the kickback around the final turn and I wanted to take a wider route but couldn’t follow the leaders.”

Silvestre de Sousa (jockey, Teletext, 10th): “He’s a mile and a half horse. They just went too quick for him. He was never going.”

Vincent Cheminaud (jockey, Vadamos, 11th) – “He really didn’t adapt to the surface and it was quickly over.”

Joao Moreira (jockey, Gun Pit, 12th) – ““He didn’t give me anything today so I didn’t push him. I just let him gallop out."
