BETTING WORLD 1900 (Grade 2) - SOLID SPEED looking for "July" pointer

RACE 6: BETTING WORLD 1900 (Grade 2) - SOLID SPEED looking for "July" pointer

5-12-15-8-6

Currently quoted at 25/1 for the Vodacom Durban July, the Dean Kannemeyer five year old son of DYNASTY, SOLID SPEED, could be the one to be with for the 1900m event on Friday night under lights. Who will forget  the finish to the 2003 Durban July when drawn widest of all at twenty, the favourite, DYNASTY, trained by Dean Kannemeyer, produced an electrifying finish to win going away. This is not the July, but this race, formerly known as the Republic Day Handicap and the richest unsponsored race in the country, has had its name changed a number of times since. Yet despite the changes in name, it still remains as a pointer to the July, even though there are other races that perform that same function.

SOLID SPEED won a pinnacle stakes race at Scottsville over 1600m last time. He has shown versatility, a common enough trait in the progeny of Dynasty. He loves this track and has a 50% win ratio here. He has has won from 1600m to 3000m. he is also no stranger to feature races in this part of the world. Last season here at Greyville he won the Highland Night and the Lonsdale. Prior to that he had won this C & D in a MR 84. Watch for another good finish and one cannot ignore the yard and jockey combination in any race in KZN at the moment.

Geoff Woodruff does send too many horses to run in KZN, but when he does, one has to sit up and take note. MASTER SWITCH is in very good form and one can say with some confidence that he should run a good race. He has a young jockey aboard in Callan Murray who appears to be headed for the top. The fact that he riding this runner and two others in smaller races on the night suggests that MASTER SWITCH is a serious runner. This will be his first run at the track but he has won over distances between the "mile" and "mile and a quarter".

Michael Azzie sends out GREEK LEGEND who won a good race at Turffontein last time. He is yet to win over the distance but did weaken over slightly shorter last time. His jockey, J P Van der Merwe has won four from seven when aboard. This will be his sternest test to date but will certainly be well turned out and not without any support.

Cape Town trainer, Vaughan Marshall, has been enjoying a fantastic run, both in KZN and Cape Town. His last win was in this very race last year when starting at the incredible odds of 66/1. He is also a son of DYNASTY and the fact that he has improved since changing yards a few months ago makes him one not to overlook.

Stable companion to SOLID SPEED, the five year old son of DYNASTY, IT IS WRITTEN, will be finishing well and could be the "dark horse".
