DYNASTY the sire of the weekend 20 May to 22 May

One of South Africa's favourite race horses and sires was the winner of the sire having had the most winners this past weekend, four in fact. He had an impressive record as a race horse and now enjoys great success as a top sire.

His career on the track was an impressive one. His career did start slowly. He ran only once as a two year old, a race he won. His major successes came as a three year old, one very busy year for him. His successes came with two Grade 2 wins, both over 1600m and both in his home town of Cape Town. He won the Selangor Cup and the Greenpoint Stakes. Not many horses win as many as four Grade 1 races in a year. His Grade 1 successes came with the SA Guineas over 1600m, the Cape Derby and Daily News, both over 2000m and the Vodacom Durban July over 2200m. He will probably be best remembered for his win in the July when he had to overcome the widest draw of 20 on a narrow and short straight to win with a blistering finish. He was also the highest rated three year old to win the July. From his twelve starts he won an incredible nine. As a four year old he won the Grade 2 Greenpoint Stakes and finished third in the Grade 1 Queen's Plate. He cost R475 000, which was the third highest paid, as a yearling and earned over R2 000 000 in stake money, which then were sizeable amounts of money.

He sired three Equus Horses of the Year, namely IRISH FLAME (2009/2010), LEGISLATE (/2013/2014) and FUTURA (2014/2015). In the same years he was elected as the leading sire in the country. His progeny have earned a staggering amount in excess of R70 000 000.

DYNASTY has produced the following Grade 1 winners: FUTURA (4 wins); LEGISLATE (4); IRISH FLAME (2); BEACH BEAUTY (5); ACT OF WAR (1); ANCESTRAL FORCE (1); BLAKE (1); JACKSON (3); and IT'S MY TURN (1)

He stands at The Highlands Stud in Robertson in the Western Cape.

DYNASTY had two winners on Friday night at Greyville with ALEXIS and the Grade 2 betting World 1900m, SOLID SPEED. There was one winner at Turffontein on Saturday, ALGHADEER and finally ROYAL LIFE on Sunday at Scottsville.
