DAILY NEWS 2000 (Grade 1) - RABADA gives Mike Azzie second big win in a month

Johannesburg trainer continues with his excellent run of success when RABADA, his three year old son of BRAVE TIN SOLDIER scored a narrow win in the Grade 1 Daily News. He was pushed all the way by IT'S MY TURN who went down by a long head and thereby denying jockey Anthony Delpech a treble in consecutive races. Take nothing away from winning jockey, Anton Marcus, who had RABADA perfectly placed throughout and produced him at the correct time and he was able to keep him going amidst strong challengers.

TRADING PROFIT was slow to break but the large field soon settled down. The pace was slow for the first 1600m of the race and they only accelerated in the last 400m. It is not sure whether the slow pace would have made much difference to the outcome. RABADA was the first to show but was allowed to settle down mid division. SYLVESTER THE CAT was moved to the front from PROSPECT STRIKE, SAMURAI BLADE and RABADA. They raced seven wide around the turn, but that never seemed to take its toll on the horses with the slow pace.

SYLVESTER THE CAT led them home IT'S MY TURN, SAMURAI BLADE and RABADA. LIEGE was also beginning to make late progress, but his threat diminished as quickly as it emerged. It was left to the two top jockeys, Anton Marcus and Anthony Delpech to fight it out on their respective mounts. MAMBO MIME ran on well for third and ROCKETBALL proved that his run behind ABASHIRI last time was no fluke.

What made the win even more remarkable was the fact that Anton Marcus dropped his crop at the top of the straight.

RABADA has shown a distinct liking for Greyville and has now won three from four at this track, making his total wins five from eight. His earnings. With this win his earnings have doubled to just under R2 500 000.
