Snitzel Filly Tops National Yearling Day One

An impeccably bred daughter of leading sire Snitzel topped Tuesday’s Day One of the Magic Millions National Yearling.
The filly, offered by Cressfield and catalogued as Lot 1522, was purchased by Queensland’s Raheen Stud for $220,000.
The well bred youngster is a half sister to this season’s group winning juvenile, the Robbie Laing trained Missrock. Dam Miss Judgement was a group winning half sister to Mrs Onassis.
“She’s a beautiful loose walking filly,” Raheen Stud’s Basil Nolan said. “And she’s by one of the hottest sires in the land.”
“Her half sister (Cartier Rock) sold for $440,000 at the Broodmare Sale last week so she looked pretty good value on the market.”
“And Missrock is one of the highest rated juveniles in the country as well,” Nolan added.
The second top seller of the day was the All Too Hard colt from Ashenti offered by New Zealand’s Henley Park and purchased by local horsewoman Helen Page for $200,000.
“He’s just a beautiful type,” a delighted Helen Page said. “Usually I buy a few yearlings for cheaper amounts but I decided to really go for this bloke who I loved.”
“He’s very strong and should be an early runner. He really caught my eye and was my pick of the sale,” she added.
The $220,000 Snitzel filly and $200,000 All Too Hard colt were two of 21 yearlings to sell for six figure prices during a spirited day’s selling.
Third on the top sellers list was an All Too Hard half brother to Group Two winner Longport and listed winner Run for Wilson who sold to New Zealand’s Joan Thoroughbreds for $180,000.
At the close of Day One the gross of $7.6 million was over double last year’s corresponding day in a sale which comprised blended Book One and Two catalogues.
Some 169 lots were sold on Day One at an average of $45,195 and an impressive clearance rate of over 82 per cent.
“We have already sold more six figure yearlings than we did for the whole sale in 2015,” Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox said.
“Competition was very strong right throughout the day as evidenced with a clearance rate over 82 per cent.”
“If you cast your eyes through the results its as diverse a buying bench as you would see.”
“We look forward to welcoming everybody back tomorrow for the last chance to buy eligible graduates for the $10 million Magic Millions raceday,” Cox added.
