Love The Chase (Not For Love), the dam of outstanding US galloper California Chrome (Lucky Pulpit) is in foal to champion sire Tapit. The latter, like California Chrome’s sire, is a son of the top class but ill-fated A P Indy son Pulpit.

Unbeaten in five outings this year, California Chrome was an impressive winner of last Saturday’s Gr1 TVG Pacific Classic at Del Mar, and currently rates as the top contender for the title of Horse Of The Year in the USA.

The charismatic chestnut, who was Horse Of The Year previously in 2014, has won 14 of 23 outings with his major victories including this year’s Gr1 Dubai World Cup and both the Gr1 Kentucky Derby and Gr1 Preakness Stakes.

A Grade One winner on both dirt and turf, California Chrome, who is trained by Art Sherman, has earned $13,252, 650 and was the last horse ever to win a stakes race at the now defunct racetrack, Hollywood Park.

The entire is also the all time leading money earner in North American history.

His winning dam Love The Chase (who is closely inbred to the former US champion Numbered Account) is out of the winning Polish Numbers mare Chase It Down and this is the same family as former Broodmare Of The Year Courtly Dee.

Tapit, currently the most expensive sire standing in the US –he stood for a 2016 fee at $300 000 at Gainesway Farm, has headed the US General Sires List for the past two years and is currently clear once again on the premiership.
His runners, who include 16 individual stakes winners in 2016, have earned over $14 000 000 in purses this year and include the Gr1 winners Creator and Frosted.
