Smart Call out of Gr 1, injury update

South Africa's darling race mare, Smart Call, was withdrawn from the Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket this afternoon.

She was found to be lame and was taken out of the race according to veterinary advice.

Her owner, Jessica Slack, told SAHorseracing.COM, "Vets have been with her all morning. Nothing definitive yet but will let you know as soon as we do."

Alex Laird went on social media stating, "It is with huge disappointment and sadness that we have to announce that Smart Call will be withdrawn from her race engagement today due to an injury . With the horse's welfare our absolute priority we made the decision based on veterinary advice."
