RAILWAY STAKES MOUNT FOR DOUGIE WHYTE

South African born Douglas Whyte has picked up the mount aboard Scales Of Justice (Not A Single Doubt) for Saturday’s Gr1 Railway Stakes in Australia. Whyte will replace the suspended Paul Harvey.

Trained by Lindsey Smith, the four-year-old gelded Scales Of Justice won the Gr3 R.J. Peters Stakes last time out, and he has won six of 12 outings to date, with his wins coming from 1000-1600m.

Scales Of Justice’s chief rivals include New Zealand champion Kawi (Savabeel), last year’s winner Good Project (Not A Single Doubt), high class performers Mackintosh (Pins) and Rageese (Street Cry) and former Gr1 winner Perfect Reflection (More Than Ready).

The Railway Stakes, due to be run for a purse this year of AUS$1 000 000, is a 1600m contest which will be run at Ascot racecourse in Perth. First run in 1887, past winners include the likes of champions Better Loosen Up (Loosen Up) and Northerly (Serheed), as well as dual winner Tudor Mak (Makapura), and Gathering (Tale Of The Cat), Old Comrade (Old Spice), Modem (Bletchley Park) and Sniper’s Bullet (Bite The Bullet).

Douglas Whyte, who has already tasted Gr1 success in Australia when riding Moriarty (Clodovil) to victory in the 2014 Gr1 Kingston Town Classic, has enjoyed tremendous success since relocating to Hong Kong, when he headed the jockeys table for 13 seasons in a row.
