Bred For Success

Many blue blooded thoroughbred's don't make it as racehorses, but when one with a purple pedigree shows a great deal of ability it is always exciting! Some well bred horses built on the buzz that their storied family members created when they were on the track at various centres around the country yesterday.

A half sister to Triple Tiara Champion and Vodacom Durban July victress Igugu, aptly named Ngaga made it back to back wins at Kenilworth under jockey Aldo Domeyer for trainer Andre Nel of Plattner racing; she was extremely game and gutsy, and is one to stick with in the future.

Racing in Johannesburg had its fair share of well bred winners. Cidada a filly owned and bred by Maine Chance Farms broke her maiden with ease; she is by Galileo out of a Caerleon mare and was ridden to victory by apprentince Calvin Ngcobo for trainer Alec Laird. Al Sahem got it right at the very first time of asking, the colt was an absolute professional on debut, and he looks like a horse who could pay to follow; he was piloted by apprentice Lyle Hewitson for trainer Sean Tarry, this colt is by Silvano out of an Al Mufti mare. Let It Rain who is a half brother to International Group 1 winner and sire Soft Falling Rain, scored his third career victory from 15 outings, and it does not look like he will stop here.
