Grade 3 Track And Ball Oaks/Derby Preview

 Race 1

5 – 7 – 10 – 3
Maiden Juvenile Plate
The Kannemeyer stable sends out, First Crusade (Crusade) a line must be put through his last outing, he may have found 5 furlongs to quick and he can score with an extra 200m to work with here. Improvers are the likes of Golden Pheasant (Antonius Pius) and the Vaughn Marshall conditioned Magic Sailor (Sail From Seattle) they could both get closer to the action in there second and third starts respectively. A first timer that makes plenty  appeal is Barking Irons (Marchfield) from the Puller stable, they can bring them out on debut, so watch the betting closely.
Race 2
 Maiden Juvenile Plate - 1600m
1 – 3 – 8 – 9
Ancestry (Oratorio) caught the eye when running second in a stakes race on Rising Sun Gold Challenge day, takes on a weak bunch of maidens and should take home the spoils. A pair of first timers might make up the rest of the trifecta with, Never Mind Bill (Oratorio) and the Van Zyl trained Sir Bernadini (Bernadini) making appeal on pedigree and lack of depth in the field. The Drier yard sends out, Texas Sky (Philanthropist) who might just run on for minor money, he appears to be one who will learn nicely from race to race.
Race 3
4 – 6 – 11 – 5
Maiden Juvenile Plate - 1600m
Justin Snaith trains a half sister to stable star, Elusive Silva the likely odds on favourite, Esteemal (Captain Al) she will never have a better chance to break her maiden, the rise in trip should only suit her. Dean Kannemeyer is perhaps the only trainer who can challenge the top selection, he has a live runner in, Olive May (Philanthropist) she wasn’t disgraced when she made her debut and can get closer to the action. James Goodman steps out, Sunny Girl (Dan De Lago) for the very first time and she is in a weak field which gives her a chance at running a place on debut. Paul Lafferty sends out, Making Miracles (Black Minnaloushe) she is one for the back end of quartets and looks ready to earn her first cheque for her owners.
Race 4
12 – 3 – 4 – 2
Maiden Plate - 1600m
Anton Marcus climbs aboard Shandy (Kahal) in another weak maiden on the card, she doesn’t have to be a star to score, only needs to improve in this event and she will more than likely grab the money. The Bosch stable has a competitive charge in, Stola (Var) she has been there abouts and it would be foolish to write her off as she is course and distance suited. The filly, Dundrum (Tiger Dance) is a consistent maiden and if she is fit to race she could threaten this bunch, the draw is the obvious concern. The back end of the quartet may be filled by, Echo In Eternity (Count Dubois) she is a real wildcard, but in this type of field anything can happen.
Race 5
3 – 2 – 1 – 4
Pinnacle Stakes - 1400m
The Van Vuuren stable has brought, Irish Pride (Ideal World) up from the Joburg yard and he could justify the trip to Natal with a win in this event. Baritone (Trippi) should be very competitive looking at his last run and it has good overall form to boot, the Snaith inmate can trouble them. Joey Ramsden sends out the talented Table Bay (Redoute’s Choice) he will be a fitter animal heading into this race and has definite claims. Night Trip is another Trippi (USA) with a big chance in this contest, on best ability he’s a live runner.
Race 6
7 – 2 – 4 – 14
Middle Stakes - 1200m
River Ayre (Greys Inn) is a consistent campaigner from the Gordon yard, she comes back from a short break which is of no concern and can land the score with Anton Marcus up. Rainbowinthesky (Muhtafal) is a highly competitive runner from the Duncan Howells camp, she should be in the mix. The latter’s stable mate is, Accidental Tourist (Gimmethegreenlight) she harbours eachway claims in this contest and could be one for places. Russian Girl (Russian Sage) is a consistent campaigner and another stakes cheque is a possibility for the Garth Puller inmate.
Race 7
13 – 2 – 4 – 3
Grade 3 Track And Ball Oaks - 2400m
Epona (Silvano) took a huge rise in class last time out, a Grade 3 event is more up her alley and she could see the famous Jooste silks to the fore. A competitive runner that may trouble them is, Girl On The Run (Silvano) a filly with loads of ability on her day. Patchit Up Baby (Ideal World) is the representative of the Ormond Ferraris stable, she is hard knocking and a tough horse overall. The brothers Marwing have a solid chance with top stayer, Zafira (Silvano) who can never be left out of any bets, ignore that last run, she wasn’t striding out.
Race 8
3 – 4 – 1 – 5
Grade 3 Track And Ball Derby - 2400m
Superman Anton Marcus will climb aboard the Bass trained, Helderberg Blue (Jet Master) his form is very encouraging and he can go on to score win number 5. Dean Kannemeyer sends out, Mr Winsome (Silvano) who is a huge threat to the top selection, he took third place in the 1900 last time out and must be respected. The Snaith stable has a smart stayer in Ovidio (Danehill Dancer) the saddle slipped when he last raced so he did have an excuse for the poor run and has an eachway shout here. A good place bet may be, Let It Rain (Dynasty) who has had the form from its last win franked, this horse is bred very well to and must be monitored.
Race 9
2 – 4 – 12 – 6
Maiden Plate  - 2400m
Silent Obsession (Silvano) looks to go one better off the back of two 2nd place finishes, the Duncan Howells trainee has every chance to land the score. The Yogas Govendor yard steps out, Festival Star (Russian Sage) who is a competitive runner based on his penultimate performance. A eachway pick with the form to do well is, Under The Rose (Gimmethegreenlight) a live runner from the Kom Naidoo stable. Handsome Harvey has a claim to this race on his best ability, so include the Miesque’s Approval in all bets.
Best Bet: Esteemal
