Kenilworth July 29th Preview: The Grade 3 Champagne Stakes -1200m

 Race 1

11:55 PM
Workriders Maiden Plate - 1000m
10 – 1 – 9 – 4
Herodus (Antonius Pius) has improved since being gelded in April, he ran fourth to Weekend Warrior a month later and did even better in his next start when finishing second to Love To Fly, this horse is strengthening up all the time and should go close. Spring Gold (Muhtafal) could give him a bit to think about, he has earned in his last four outings and has claims of taking top honours. Cousin Ed (What A Winter) was well beaten on debut when finishing eight lengths behind the winner, but he is related to many a scorer and can get closer to the action having had a run. Boy Scout by a true speed horse (Seventh Rock) produced a much improved effort when fifth to Hithimagainchuck last time out, he looks capable of earning again and must be added to all quartets.

Race 2
12:25 PM
Maiden Juvenile Plate (Fillies) - 1200m
10 – 13 – 6 – 5
Ostinato (Judpot) represents the seriously strong formline of a very game filly named, Angel’s Trumpet who has since won back to back races and it would give her reputation a considerable boost if she scored here. Watch the betting on Woodstock Fairy (Var) she made huge improvement in her second run and is by no means out of it. The first timer, Imperadora sired by (Philanthropist) is a half sister to multiple Grade 1 winner, Legal Eagle and that alone makes her quite a prospect for the future. Goa a chestnut by (Trippi) has not shown much in her two starts to date, but has a place   chance in this type of field.

Race 3
13:05 PM
Maiden Juvenile Plate (Fillies) - 1200m
8 – 4 – 12 – 11
Rush Hour Girl (Windrush) finished three lengths off, Freedom Charter in her most recent race, this will be her peak effort and she should be in the mix. Bendy Bullet (Judpot) has been placed in both starts to date, she has only been tested over the minimum trip, but should handle the extra 200 meters in this event. Township Melody (Pathfork) is learning from run to run and has an eachway shout; she may have been soundly beaten in her second outing, but she is none the less improving. Sweet Afton by young sire (Gimmethegreenlight) must have a line put through her last run, the filly raced over 1400m which may have been a bit to far at this stage, she could feature on her penultimate effort.

Race 4
13:45 PM
Juvenile Plate - 1400m
3 – 4 – 1 – 5
Phelan Lucky (Excelebration) was hardly disgraced in the Langerman over 1500m behind, Tap O North who bested him by five lengths that day and considering that it was his first run out of the maidens there is more than likely plenty of improvement to come from the colt. Supreme Orator who is by (Oratorio) has been facing the cream of the crop in terms of juvenile talent in the Cape and could get closer to the action taking a drop in class from feature to plate level. Apollo Star (Alado) is fresh off his maiden win and considering that this isn’t the strongest field ever, the colt does have a chance of being competitive. The maiden, Flash Twice (Twice Over) has improved with each and every run, he was second to the third pick when last seen in action and could feature against winners.

Race 5
14:30 PM
Juvenile Plate (Fillies) - 1600m
2 – 1 – 4 – 7
Midnight Moonlight (Jay Peg) made a winning debut earlier this month in a 1400m event, she should have no issues with the extra furlong and can keep her unbeaten record intact. Favola (Horse Chestnut) is much better than her last run might suggest, she was found to be not striding out in a feature race behind, Rose In Bloom and could be a factor taking a drop in class. Merysagos (Captain Al) is a very consistent maiden, the bay filly has been the runner up on three consecutive occasions and it would not be a shock to see her run well against winners. Super Sparkle by (Warm White Night) has yet to break her maiden, but she has earned twice in her three  starts to date and could collect another cheque here.

Race 6
15:10 PM
MR 92 Handicap - 1800m
3 – 4 – 6 – 1
King Of The Corn (Lateral) returns from a lengthy absence of 102 days, he did complete a hatrick before being put away and does have the heart to see this out. Platinum Prince (Silvano) is on a three win streak and should be very competitive in this event considering that he has been able to go through the divisions. Waiting For Rain (Black Minnaloushe) has collected prize money for his connections on eight consecutive occasions and does have claims of being involved in the finish. Ultimate Dollar (Jay Peg) could be a factor on his most recent run where he finished a length behind the talented, Milton and a similar effort would bring him right into the mix of this contest.

Race 7
15:45 PM
Grade 3 Champagne Stakes - 1200m
4 – 8 – 12 – 11
Hanabi (Var) won the Listed Olympic Duel before flopping against decent male rivals in a Pinnacle Stakes, the bay mare has won five times from 18 starts and looks much better off racing back against her own sex, she has serious claims of bouncing back to her very best here. South Side sired by (Pathfork) bids for a hatrick in this event, the filly has never won over the trip of 1200m, but she does have ability at the end of the day and cannot be taken lightly. Ahoy Me Matey (Fanatic Dane) looks very competitive in this feature event, she has won two of her three starts to date and beat a smart sort in, Love To Boogie (Trippi) who finished second to the top pick in her penultimate effort.

Race 8
16:25 PM
MR 88 Handicap (Fillies & Mares) - 1400m
4 – 6 – 1 – 2
Sylvanite (Silvano) cannot be judged on her most recent race, the bay did not have a favourable position, she raced wide for most of the journey, it just needs some luck in running to be competitive. Spending Spree by the sire (Jay Peg) has been a runner up on three consecutive occasions, she is long overdue her second career win and deserves the utmost respect in a competitive handicap. Miss Marker (Var) bounced back to form in a 1600 last time out, she is very versatile and the drop in trip should not make a difference, the filly has definite claims of featuring here. Primrose Lane is by (Gimmethegreenlight) a young and certainly recognizable sire capable of producing quality racehorses, this particular individual holds a number of runners on the Ahoy Me Matey formline and she has a quartet chance in this event.

Race 9
17:00 PM
Maiden Plate - 1600m
1 – 4 – 15 – 2
Off Broadway (Var) may never have a better chance to break his maiden,  after four consecutive seconds one would expect the chestnut to go very close in this event provided he sees out the trip. Two Brothers is a gelded son of (Trippi) he ran a much improved race last time out and could be in the mix if he can reproduce that effort here. Rocket Countdown is a baby by (Alado) the juvenile colt has earned in both starts to date and he does make some appeal on that basis. Lancer (Soar With Eagles) showed some improvement when last seen in action, he managed to finish a close third despite racing wide and has claims of making the frame in this contest.
