The For The Ladies Stakes (Non-BlackType) is the supporting feature race at Turffontein this Saturday. A 1200m contest for fillies and mares, the R135 000 contest has attracted a competitive looking field of nine.

Top weight Secret Star (Pathfork) must have a chance in the race, despite conceding from 3.5 to 8kgs to her rivals. She has, however, only won once, from five outings, on the inside course, but must be respected here.

Champion trainer Sean Tarry will saddle three here including the smart filly Myfunnyvalentine (Captain Al), who holds the class record for the distance. Myfunnyvalentine, who appears the stable elect, made a pleasing return to form when second, to Spring Wonder (Querari) after a long layoff recently. She is however worse off at the weights with Spring Wonder here, with the latter also having questions to answer after not striding out when 11 lengths off the winner last time out.

Myfunnyvalentine’s stablemate Swift Sarah (Dynasty) needs to improve on her last outing when well beaten by Spring Wonder and Myfunnyvalentine, while Old Em (Trippi), the third of the Tarry runners, has long since threatened to win a decent race and does get into this race with just 52kgs on her back.

Shivering Sea (Captain Al) is better off at the weights with both Spring Wonder and Myfunnyvalentine and loves the course and distance, while Lady Starlett (Overlord) has done nothing wrong of late and could be involved in the finish.

The de Kock yard sends out the blue blooded Alileo (by Captain Al out of a Fillies Mile winning daughter of Galileo), who is unbeaten in two starts. The lightly raced four-year-old, however, is making her first start since April and also faces her toughest task to date, but is another with just 52kgs to carry and could have scope for further improvement.

The Lucky Houdalakis trained My Friend Lee (Pathfork) drops back in trip having been competing over further and was not disgraced when beaten just two lengths in the Listed Syringa Handicap last time out. She has done nothing wrong in two starts over 1200m but does make her first appearance since May.
