Gr1 Saudi Cup winner, Panthalassa Retired

Dubbed the "Fugitive of Reiwa," Panthalassa, a two-time G1 champion clinching victories in the Dubai Turf last year and the Saudi Cup in February, has gracefully bowed out of the racing scene. Following a 10th-place finish in the Dubai World Cup in March, a brief hiatus ensued due to desmitis. The gallant horse returned to domestic racing, making a spirited appearance in the Japan Cup, finishing 12th but captivating fans with his signature fervor. His illustrious career amassed a total prize purse of 1,844,466,200 yen, ranking as the fourth highest in history.

Trainer Yahagi, reflecting on Panthalassa's retirement, revealed, "He has no post-race issues, but I envisioned his retirement since the beginning of the year." Drawing parallels with Contrail, Yahagi marveled at Panthalassa's unexpected greatness, emphasizing the horse's unique qualities. Despite fans' overwhelming support, Yahagi humbly acknowledged the collaborative nature of Panthalassa's success, attributing part of it to the horse's innate genius. As Panthalassa embarks on his new journey at Arrow Stud in Shin-Hidaka town, Hokkaido, plans for a dignified retirement ceremony are underway. The parting sentiments echo a profound sense of sadness at bidding farewell to a horse that has etched its place in the hearts of racing enthusiasts.
