ALADO TO STAND AT OAKLANDS STUD, SOUTH AFRICA

ALADO, an exceptionally well bred son of Danzig, is to stand in South Africa. Oaklands Stud have acquired the rights to stand this unraced Danzig colt.

He is ALBORADA`S first foal and will stand in South Africa for the forthcoming Southern Hemisphere breeding season.

The Lanwades Stud-bred product of a world champion sire and a world champion mare was trained in Newmarket by Sir Mark Prescott, but unable to make the racecourse due to injury. At Oaklands he will stand alongside European Group 1 winners MEDAALY and SECOND EMPIRE.

His trainer said of ALADO: "This colt always showed great ability at home and a superb temperament to match it. He is a grand individual and his family is as good as any in the stud book. I have been lucky enough to train five individual Group winners from the family and ALADO must be a great stallion prospect in South Africa."

He continued: "A grand individual by the great Danzig, out of one of the best famillies in Europe, Alado showed great ability too and if common sense has anything to do with it, he must make a decent sire."

Oaklands Stud Manager Paul Timms was equally upbeat about his prospects:: "We are delighted to be standing a horse of this quality at Oaklands and delighted to be involved with Lanwades. ALADO`s imminent arrival in South Africa later this month has aroused a lot of interest from breeders and a number of mares have already been booked in. In addition, Miss Rausing is sending three of her own mares down to Oaklands to be covered which is wonderful."

Traveling to South Africa from Lanwades to join ALADO`s first book will be two three-year-old descendants of Lanwades foundation families - ALTESSE, a great-grand-daughter of ALRUCCABA, and SELMA, a great-grand-daughter of SUSHILA - and CAROLINA MOON, a recently-acquired grand-daughter of Oaks and Irish Derby winner BALANCHINE.

South Africa seems to be attracting some high class blood and there is no doubt that the genetic pool will be strengthened by a son of Danzig out of a champion racemare.
