Tragic Demise of Jockey Md Zairi
With deep regret, the Perak Turf Club wishes to announce the tragic death of Jockey Md Zairi bin Hassim yesterday, 14th October, 2018. Zairi was fatally injured after being crushed by his horse, Hip Hip Hooray, prior to the running of Race 4. Whilst in the saddling area, his mount suddenly reared up and flipped backwards onto the ground, and Zairi was unable to get out of harm’s way.
Zairi was immediately attended to by the Race Day doctor and para-medics, and was rushed away by ambulance to the nearest hospital. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries at the emergency ward of KPJ Ipoh Specialist Hospital.
The Panel of Stewards have initiated an investigation into the incident and will thereafter refer the matter to the police for their further action.
The Committee and staff of Perak Turf Club wish to extend their condolences to the family of Md Zairi and will assist them in their time of grief.
