Timeform has announced its winners for the 2025 Flat season, highlighting a year shaped by high-class juveniles, elite middle-distance performers and a Champion Stakes that stood out as the race of the year. At two, Gewan was crowned Champion Juvenile Colt after confirming his class with a decisive Dewhurst Stakes victory, while Precise earned Champion Juvenile Filly honours for Aidan O’Brien following her Group 1 double in the Moyglare Stud Stakes and Fillies’ Mile. Among the older horses, Hong Kong star Ka Ying Rising was named Champion Sprinter and Field Of Gold took Champion Miler honours after a Classic-winning campaign that peaked in the Irish 2000 Guineas and St James’s Palace Stakes. The Champion Middle-Distance Performer title went to Calandagan, whose victories in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, Champion Stakes and Japan Cup made him Europe’s highest-rated horse. Trawlerman dominated the staying division to earn Champion Stayer, while Oaks winner Minnie Hauk was named Champion Filly/Mare following a season highlighted by Classic success and a close second in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. The Champion Stakes at Ascot was voted Race of the Year, reflecting the depth and quality of a renewal led by Calandagan and Ombudsman. St Mark’s Basilica was named Leading First-Season Sire based on the average ratings of his best runners, while the Timeform Special Recognition Award went to Scottish trainer Jim Goldie, whose landmark season included his 1,000th Flat winner and a first Group 1 success with American Affair.
