Legal Eagle wins a Cracking finish

LEGAL EAGLE got the shortest of short head decision in a four way finish as South Africa's best milers did battle in the Green Point Stakes at Kenilworth in Cape Town.

It took four replays for the commentator to make his mind up as Legal Eagle won the race from a three way split for second, a nose separating the four horses. Rainbow Bridge, Do It Again and Undercover Agent made for a finish of a lifetime as the four went to the line as one. Rainbow Bridge who pulled in the early stages and for the first half of the race was restrainted in middle field but found the best kick at the business end as he just missed the win.

The lead from the off was taken early by Legal Eagle but as Undercover Agent recovered from his wide draw in this small field he found his way to the front and led. By the 500m pole he looked a beaten horse as Legal Eagle looked poised to run away with the victory in the final 400m. In a pulsating final 400, Undercover Agent fought back, stared down Legal Eagle and fought with him head to head down the straight. In the meantime, Do It Again (third) wasn't willing to miss out and expectedly took off in the later stages only to be beaten on the inside. Meanwhile on the outside of Legal Eagle and Undercover Agent, Rainbow Bridge  (fourth) produced his run and what an effort that was. A cracking Race and surely must leave the appetite whet for the L'Ormarins Queen's Plate when these foes will next meet. Victory for one of them was just a unfair result as the race in the end was the true winner.

"He's a special horse. It's a privilege to be associated with a horse like this. Look what Sean has done, seven years," said Jockey Anton Marcus.

"When I got to the line I wasn't sure. I am looking forward to the Queens Plate," said Marcus.

Tarry stated, "What can I say this was nerve wrecking,

"What a masterful ride. A true professional." Tarry said of Marcus.
