SILVANO'S PRIDE HEADING FOR JULY

Anthony Peter has never regretted the evening he bought Silvano’s Pride back for R100,000 at the Cape Premier Yearling Sale in 2017.

Peter had bred her, but there wasn’t much interest among bidders and he decided to keep her and give her to Justin Snaith for a track career.

“She was going to go to the broodmare paddock if she wasn’t a good racehorse, but we put her in training and the rest is history,” said Snaith, who was very chuffed with Silvano’s Pride’s win in Saturday’s Gr2 Tibouchina Stakes over 1400m at Greyville.

Silvano’s Pride likes to race fresh and has proven to be a talented and versatile filly who enjoys Greyville, but, after a rest, she was surprisingly easy to back at 6-1. Her faithful supporters were counting the cash fully 400m out.

She took up the running under Keagan De Melo soon after the field broke from the pens, galloped along comfortably, quickened away at the top of the home run and then produced another burst of speed late to put her challengers away without fuss.

“She’s incredible, a very good filly,” Snaith raved after the race. “Her form in Cape Town was top notch, she was a bit unlucky in the Gr1’s, and she was always going to take a lot of beating at Greyville.”

Snaith said that Silvano’s Pide was “a fighter of note” – a filly who had to be “taken on at your peril” and suggested that she’d probably be going for the “big one”, the Durban July, on 25 July.

“I will be discussing it with her owner this week,” said Snaith.

Silvano’s Pride has won 5 races with 7 places from 15 starts for career stakes of R1 249 875.
