Classy Field Assembled for Kzn Derby

The build-up races to the country’s biggest, the Vodacom Durban July 2020, that will be run on July 25, has been happening in rapid succession because of the ripple effect of the Covid lock-down.

The Track and Ball Derby has attracted a small classy field with three runners looking to qualify for the Vodacom Durban July. It’s My Turn, Eyes Wide Open and Duke of Spin are all in the mix. Marchingontogether heads the betting boards as he won the Lonsdale Stirrup Cup in fine style and his dam line is packed with stamina.

Eyes Wide Open is having his third run after a rest and with an eye-catching jockey booking Anton Marcus up makes him a strong contender in this line-up.

It’s My Turn, after a lengthy injury break, ran well in his last start and will be more suited to Saturday’s trip. Trainer Dean Kannemeyer said ‘’He is doing extremely well and I’m very happy with him. I’ve had him on the grass and expect a big run as were aiming him at the Vodacom Durban July”.

The Track and Ball Oaks sees the Highveld runners dominating the race and betting.

Pomander ran a huge race when finishing second to Summer Pudding in the Grade 1 SA Oaks and based on that she is a massive runner. She comes from a top yard and should be right there. Chitengo is favourite in the early exchanges and has beaten Pomander in the past. These two look set to fight it out. Chitengo was drawn badly in her last start and has a reasonable draw this time round and clearly loves the 2400m trip.

This is a mouth-watering day for punters with a nine race program which includes the competitive KZN Winter Challenge series of races.
