Reigning national champion jockey Warren Kennedy's chances of retaining his title are forlorn but he did close the gap on runway leader Lyle Hewitson to 52 today when riding five winners in the first six races at the Vaal Classic track.
Hewitson had a blank to remain on 180 winners for the season although he has had by far the most rides, 1224, which equates to a strike rate of 14.71%.
Three of Kennedy's winners, Trying Times, Anne Boleyn and Atomic Blonde, were for his chief stable Paul Peter, and the other two, Lucy In The Sky and Ideal Angel, were for Brett Webber and Erico Verdonese respectively.
Kennedy has had 822 rides in the season for 128 winners, a strike rate of 15.57%.
He is in the process of emigrating and today showed what a loss he would be to the SA jockey ranks.
