Melbourne Cup Final Field Announced

Melbourne Cup favourite Deauville Legend will jump from barrier nine in Tuesday's Group 1.

The short-priced favourite, trained by rising trainer James Ferguson, will be ridden by Kerrin McEvoy.

All eyes were on owner Bon Ho when Deauville Legend's saddlecloth number was drawn out early, and he gobbled up the pressure, choosing a superb barrier for his globetrotting star.

"I'm pleased. I didn't really want a very low draw, didn't want a very wide draw," Ferguson said.

"Nine is absolutely spot on for us. Pace being on the outside, they're going to go some clip to get there.

"So ideally we get into a good position and don't have to work too hard to get there.

"But we've still got to get the horse there, the rest is up to Kerrin."

Ferguson said he was hopeful of Deauville Legend being able to find a spot just behind the leaders.

Incredibly, Ciaron Maher and David Eustace will have five runners in this year's race.

Leading rider Jamie Kah will partner Smokin' Romans from barrier 16, topweight Gold Trip was allotted barrier 14, Grand Promenade drew barrier 1, High Emocean will jump from eight, while Interpretation, the last horse into this year's field to round out the Maher-Eustace Cup team, scored barrier six.

"I'm really proud of the team," Eustace said.

"They go there is really good order and we can't wait for the race.

"I think they have all drawn quite well. Probably Smokin' Romans, we would have liked him to draw in and roll forward. He's the one horse that may not have drawn quite so well."

Ed Cummings-trained Duais drew perfectly for Hugh Bowman in barrier 10.

Import Camorra, who is trained by Ben and JD Hayes drew wide in 17 and next to him is quarantine partner, the Simon and Ed Crisford-trained Without A Fight (barrier 18).
